Would like to hear you opinions! Thanks! 1. Honda Jazz Manual 2. Toyota Vios Manual 3. Mitsubishi Lancer Sports Manual ↡ Advertisement
Benhew05 Neutral Newbie April 22, 2005 Share April 22, 2005 Hello there Coldcut, Deciding on car based on sound insulation? All are quiet... until you switch on engine kekekeke All are noisy ... when you ram at >3000rpm (90km/hr) So how? Choose a Lexus perhaps?

Coldcut Neutral Newbie April 22, 2005 Author Share April 22, 2005 Hi there Apollo! Thanks for your advice. I'm driving a Ford Laser (2000 model) but I find it pretty noisy as in I can hear noise from the outside while i'm playing music. So I hope when I change to a new car, sound insulation is definitely a factor (As in it has to be better than a ford laser). Thanks!
Wbucket Clutched April 22, 2005 Share April 22, 2005 General characteristic of Japanese car is the hollowness of its door, and also the usual lack of proper sound proofing. You might want to consider western cars instead. Between, I find that swift is quite quiet. Then again I am comparing it to my present ride.
Owen_fan 2nd Gear April 22, 2005 Share April 22, 2005 not all japanese car are noisy. I have ever sit inside toyota vios, it is must better than my 323.
Wbucket Clutched April 22, 2005 Share April 22, 2005 That is why I said comparatively. My noisy is not his noisy and your noisy. So I would be hard to standardize each acceptable noise level. But what I said is generally western cars are more quiet. Maybe if I sit in your 323, I will think it is quiet too. Cause nothing beats kelisa when it comes to noise. Slidingturtle Neutral Newbie April 24, 2005 Share April 24, 2005 Haha, bro, i would say just pick the car you like best in terms of drivability, then mod the sound insulation to suit your own quiteness level. The former is much harder to mod / improve than the later. cheers
Sturtles 6th Gear April 24, 2005 Share April 24, 2005 Hmm... I'm driving a lancer and i do think its very noisy, be it the gearbox, or the road and wind noise I've DIY with bitumen and foam for the floor and the 4 doors. Engine noise is down considerably, but road noise is still bad, though now not as highp itch as before, the loud and intrusive rumble of the roads is still there. I'm already on michellin preceda, which i find only a slight bit noisier than the Aspec db Imo, Removing road noise > 50% is not an easy job at all, if cheap
Geminik Neutral Newbie April 24, 2005 Share April 24, 2005 Good or bad u mean? Anyway stock cars insulation is bad , like when u blast ur ICE, ppl outside can hear everything.
Wbucket Clutched April 24, 2005 Share April 24, 2005 Did you use 2 layer for doors? Frankly speaking, the floors were tested to be of the less use. The areas "researched" to be the best in sound insulation is doors and wheel arcs. Though I am still wondering how people do their front wheel arc, but the back is easy. And if you are hard-core enough, the most difficult area to do your SP is the firewall. That should help you with the engine. Say your lancer's a auto or manual? Lionheart7004 Neutral Newbie April 24, 2005 Share April 24, 2005 True. firwewall is the toughest.. followed by the rear wheel arch where it intersect with the trunk..
Wbucket Clutched April 24, 2005 Share April 24, 2005 My ICE isn't really audible outside my car. I try listerning by coming out when set the sound level to my comfortable region. Anyway, my comfortable region is about when I can't hear my signal lights and sometimes horn from the back. Of course when I wind down my windows, I got stares at me when I drive into the multi-storey. My friend was speaking, "super beng". But if you have a sub, then no amount of sound proofing is going to keep those bass in. Like I mentioned ahead, the usual idea is western cars have better sound insulation. Tighter glasses and stuff like that. But I guess the major sound that disturb, should be the engine noise. But then again, if you rev, then don't complain! Wbucket Clutched April 24, 2005 Share April 24, 2005 Mine is a hatch back. The rear arc can't be any easier than this. Don't know about sedan though.
Lionheart7004 Neutral Newbie April 24, 2005 Share April 24, 2005 Sedan.. is tougher.. as the rear arch has the intersection point usually . The interesction point need to do it properly otherwise the sound will still 'leak' from the trunk. If i am not wrong Hatchback may have the same problem. I dun know. Wbucket Clutched April 24, 2005 Share April 24, 2005 Some of those hatchback with deeper boot might have the same problem. But I don't forsee mine though. See how lah, haven't do yet, just planning.
Slidingturtle Neutral Newbie April 25, 2005 Share April 25, 2005 Hmm... I'm already on michellin preceda, which i find only a slight bit noisier than the Aspec db Imo, Removing road noise > 50% is not an easy job at all, if cheap i hear you i am driving a civic, but the road noise can sometimes be unbearable too. i have double layer of soundproving at the doors, and are on the same tyres as you. i rem going on NS highway, almost could not carry out a conversation at normal levels with my side passenger. my next attempt would be like the other bros are saying, gun for the wheel arches... but sigh, so many projects, so little money... Sturtles 6th Gear April 25, 2005 Share April 25, 2005 Cars in the 1.6L segment should really do something about the soundproofing and use it as point to market... sigh if doing the wheel arch helps considerably, pls let me know. My floor is already 2 layers of bitumen and 3 for the firewall area. high pitch noises is reduced by foam, but the low pitch rumble remains, maybe only a slight improvement. Not exactly a lot of improvement for a lotof back breaking work ↡ Advertisement
