XLR8 1st Gear April 22, 2005 Share April 22, 2005 One thing I dont understand is. The speedo has up to 240km/h on the Octy, is it the same as Audi 1.6? If speedo max is 240km/h and the car can only hit lets say 170km/h, then whats the point? ↡ Advertisement
Trex101 3rd Gear April 22, 2005 Share April 22, 2005 5th gear at 80km/h.... . Redline yr octy at 4th before switching to 5th , you should be near 180km/h. NOTE: the above method is not tested, not proven & not recommended! For amateurs, at least. Yes, his right. Got to redline it at 4th gear before changing to 5th, tried on my 2G City at NSH and can hit 180km/h before rev cut.

If speedo max is 240km/h and the car can only hit lets say 170km/h, then whats the point? Generally for Contis, there will be a number of engine variants. For the A4, it includes the 1.8T and 2.8V6 both of which are capable of 200+ km/h. Similarly, the Octy would also have these engine variants. As such the speedo which reads up to 240km/h can be used in these models...
XLR8 1st Gear April 22, 2005 Share April 22, 2005 (edited) Different leh bro. I ever saw a Skoda 1.8T speedo. Max speed reads 260km/h and not 240km/h. Edited April 22, 2005 by Relak
Guest66 Neutral Newbie April 22, 2005 Share April 22, 2005 140kmh max? Cant be leh. I've ever hit 160-170kmh before. I am pretty sure that the 1.6 Octy is able to hit 200kmh steadily. 180+ km/hr is believable. But 200km/hr given the Octy's 100+ horses and weight, I really do not think so. For example to do 200km/hr without any tail wind or gradient assist you should have close to 150 bhp. To do 230 km/hr, you will need at least 200 bhp depending on vehicle kerb weight. To cross 250 km/hr, expect at least 250 bhp. More importantly, is how fast you get to say 180km/hr, 20 seconds from standstill or 1 min and counting? Oh wow..sumthing "new" to me.so nex time I go drivng I shudhav weather reports like wind charts, road profile for gradient study and jetstreams conditions.. Im just wondering..so waht happens with cars like LGT who has 245BHP but only 180KPH on the meter? Or CL7 with 220BHP and 180KPH on the meter? basiing on ur abv formula for PTWR. How abt motobikes? does a bike need 250BHP to hit 200KPH? Besides Engine, I think it also takes guts to push the envelope. my 0.02cts
Oneofakind Neutral Newbie April 23, 2005 Share April 23, 2005 Is it? I used to drive a CK lancer with only 110bhp and I managed to hit 210km/h on the NS highway. Anyway 180+kmh or 200kmh its not a huge diff. You seem to emphasize on how fast you get to 180km/hr dude. You driving a Saab Turbo? Can you hit 180km/h in 10secs? My ride takes about 1min and counting! 180 in 10 seconds......in my wildest dreams It does it pretty fast but not 10 seconds lah 110 and 210 km/hr? Is yours a manual? Cos almost all the auto lancers cop out at about 180km/hr....no horse run. My mum's camry has 150bhp and it really struggles with 200km/hr...., I have about a hundred bhp more than that and I also mash the pedal to the carpet to cross 240km/hr.... I have never seen a normal 1.6 keep close at 200km/hr....forums is one matter, the road or track is another altogether
Oneofakind Neutral Newbie April 23, 2005 Share April 23, 2005 (edited) Aiyah it is for normal cars lah...not pocket sized rockets or motorbikes. The cars you mentioned are speed limited, remove the damned limiter to find the true potential But tail wind and gradient does have effect on your top speed especially for cars with not much power. Try running your 1.6 normal sedan up a mild 5% gradient with a 20 knot head wind....but with the condition reversed than you can achieve above 200km/hr figures. Lets talk about flat ground performance. GUTS, personally in most contis, speeds of 250km/hr don't seem like much.....if the suspension is properly set-up. The insulation and ease of maintaining the speed detracts away from the actual speed. As with the horsepower, it is a guideline and based on the cars I have at home, I really do think it is accurate. 150 bhp camry struggle to hit 200km/hr. 220 bhp ES300, struggle to nudge 220km/hr. 240+ bhp Saab...struggle to past 240km/hr. 280 bhp LS430 struggle to past 270km/hr......do the math....isn't it there? And for the record I have never seen a normal, unmodded 1.6 L even come close to the Camry at WOT. Edited April 23, 2005 by Oneofakind
Furrynadz 5th Gear April 23, 2005 Share April 23, 2005 (edited) can go higher i pushed my berlingo van to 160 already, and its official rated speed is 152kmh only my camry 180 still can go but too many cars Edited April 23, 2005 by Furrynadz
XLR8 1st Gear April 23, 2005 Share April 23, 2005 Hi bro, yes my lancer is a manual. On the NS highway back from Malacca I've managed to hit bout 205km/h on the straights. Slight downhill can hit 210km/h. My 1.5 EK civic also a manual managed to hit 200km/h at 40 lampost before. I guess the older generation engines are slightly better. The newer engines seem to be more fuel efficient. I like the Saab Troll but very expensive leh. How much is the dep for a 2nd hand 9-3?

Dudemobile Neutral Newbie April 28, 2005 Share April 28, 2005 Hi guys... I've been long disappeared from this forum... Kinda miss u all... Anywayz, I just wanna find out from u guys... I didn't mod my engine, no turbo, no CAI, all stock. I just came back from *undisclosed area* where I basically floored my accelerator... Nice feeling... 5th gear,80... 90... 100... 110... 120... 130... 140... 140... 140... Am I seeing the right number? 140km/h is the max speed Octy can travel? Can anyone explain? Or did I just reached the power cut value? But on the plus side, the car handled surprisingly well at 140km/h. Mine Octy manual, managed to hit 190 with speed limiter. Like they said you really need to use the 4 gear to gain much of the speed, then change to 5th. Octy very stable for a 1.6l entry level car at those speeds. Of course it helps that the place you hit these speeds are free of traffic. I've managed to travel at 160-170 with 4 big adults when coming back from a foreign island. The Octy outperforms most 1.6l N.A cars at higher speeds. There is soo much torque at those speeds that you can smell the tyres starting to disintegrate
Moeykf Neutral Newbie April 28, 2005 Share April 28, 2005 yep can reach even further. i reached 210km at 6000+ rpm but with the help of slope, car still very steady.

(JDM) That's bcos the highest speed limit in jap is 180km/h. That's when you're supposed to hold or slow down or the limiter will cut in. Those exported to other countries might have a higher speed showing on their speedo. ↡ Advertisement
