Chucky88 Neutral Newbie April 11, 2005 Share April 11, 2005 Just to check as I encounter my car air-con during the hot day especially, my temperature is set to nearly maximum coldness then sometimes, can feel the cold air disappear cos just blow out normal air then after a while, the cold air returns again. I bring my car to let my mechanic check, he told me the clutch for the air-con compressor having bigger gap than before which causes such symptom so he suggested me to change the whole air-con compressor which causes me $550. Is there a way to replace only the clutch instead of the whole air-con compressor? Can anyone enlighten me on that, thanks! ↡ Advertisement

Chucky88 Neutral Newbie April 12, 2005 Author Share April 12, 2005 I suspect the problem is that I did not change my receiver drier since day 1 so could that be piling up all the unwanted particles and restricting my air flow of cold air into the cabin? Anyone know about this?
Pisces69 6th Gear April 13, 2005 Share April 13, 2005 Try a 2nd opinion b4 u do anything. I suggest Markool at woodlands. They give good & honest quotes & service. Maybe he can recommend a 2nd hand compressor if need to change.
Chucky88 Neutral Newbie April 13, 2005 Author Share April 13, 2005 Ok, thanks for all your advices! I just went to an air-con specialist located at Pioneer Road North. He told me that problem is due to the expansion valve, not air-con compressor cos the valve might have get stuck so need to dismantle the whole thing for servicing. I also suspect it could be due to the receiver drier as I have not change it for 2 years 7 months or 70K mileage. Will get the workshop to service the expansion valve including changing a new receiver valve.
Yeobh 4th Gear April 14, 2005 Share April 14, 2005 Expansion valve cannot be service, you need a new replacment. It is good preventive maintenance practice to replace the filter drier whenever you vacuum the air cond system and charge new gas
Chucky88 Neutral Newbie April 14, 2005 Author Share April 14, 2005 Oh I see, so should be changing the expansion valve due to particles choke up system cos I did not change my receiver drier. So fellow members, just take note of that to service your car air-con once a year and change receiver drier every 2 years or 50K equivalent.

Pisces69 6th Gear April 14, 2005 Share April 14, 2005 Hi Yeo, I don't think he means to make fun of u. He just telling us what u said to service regularly & change receiver/dryer once a year. Maybe the way he put it didn't come out right. Anyway I been using my a/c for 3 years plus without any servicing but top up gas about 8 months ago. I just prob wait till compressor spoil & replace with a 2nd hand one for abt $200 plus incl normal service. Mine is old car so parts are quite cheap. Relax yeo. All the regulars here know u one of the guru's on this forum. Cheers.
