Valjean Neutral Newbie April 7, 2005 Share April 7, 2005 Any comments on the 2 tyres above in terms of comfort, noise, wet/dry grip, handling, price? Thanks. ↡ Advertisement
DarkLord 1st Gear April 7, 2005 Share April 7, 2005 (edited) I am using Preceda now.. It's abit expensive as compared to other tires but it's definitely value for money.. A good mix of performance and quietness.. A few of the bros here have also changed to Preceda after my recommendation.. So far the feedbacks are all . Valjean Neutral Newbie April 8, 2005 Author Share April 8, 2005 Thanks for advice. I've been hearing good things about it too but just wanted to check because the Michelin S'pore website makes the MXV8 out to be really good as well. I'm more comfort biased but don't want to sacrifice too much performance so Preceda does seem pretty good.
Jamestan Neutral Newbie April 8, 2005 Share April 8, 2005 Can only comment on Preceda. Damn quiet. Performance have not really tested. Another friend on MXV8 actually regretted getting it after he sat in my car. Both our cars same model.
Liuhao Neutral Newbie April 8, 2005 Share April 8, 2005 you cant have good from both side of world bro. preceda is a compromise. it's quiet and comfort than performance tires but it has no way to be close to performance tire. dry grip seems ok but wet grip is the thing you have to be very careful about. get preceda but keep in mind that it's more like a comfort tire, still. there is very little "performance" thing you can squeeze out from it. if u have different mindset about preceda then sooner or later you can be in trouble. if the word "performance" ever comes across your mind, u better go and get pilot sport/falcon etc.
Protege 1st Gear April 8, 2005 Share April 8, 2005 Bro, are you on the Precedas? I am on the Precedas and have clocked about 36k on them already. Performance still very good. I am on 205/45/16. I ever tried 140 on NS Highway in heavy rain and no aquaplaning on it. Taking corners at high speed is a breeze. Even taking on the 99 turns at South Buona Vista also no prob. Definitely performance not as good as Pilot Sport as thats really high performance. However, its much better than comfort based tyres.
Liuhao Neutral Newbie April 8, 2005 Share April 8, 2005 (edited) yea i am on preceda. i feel i am driving on ice when it rains. mine is 195/55/15. yours is wider. maybe it helps. no aquaplaning for me under rains but i would never do hard braking or cornering when speed >50km under raining. previously using falcon. the noise was unbearable but dry and web grip was really way better. Protege 1st Gear April 8, 2005 Share April 8, 2005 As far as I know, the lower the profile and the wider the tyres, it is more prone to aquaplaning. Anyway which model of Falken you are referring to? The ZE512 I previously had is bad!
Liuhao Neutral Newbie April 8, 2005 Share April 8, 2005 i think my previous one is 512. hehz...it performed very well. i was on it until rubber was harden. the preceda has superior dry grip. only web grip is my concern. well every car is different... Protege 1st Gear April 8, 2005 Share April 8, 2005 Maybe you are right. But so far, the Precedas is one of the best I ever had. The only prob is that the noise is getting a little louder at 36k already.
Jamesgetz 4th Gear April 8, 2005 Share April 8, 2005 depends on your driving style i suppose. kinda agree with you that ZE512 is less than impressive but partly bcos of my insane style of driving but for most pp, i think it's pretty good value for money
Pisces69 6th Gear April 8, 2005 Share April 8, 2005 yea i am on preceda. i feel i am driving on ice when it rains. mine is 195/55/15. yours is wider. maybe it helps. no aquaplaning for me under rains but i would never do hard braking or cornering when speed >50km under raining. The wider a tire, the more prone to aquaplaning. Maybe u sud get a 4 wheel computerised alignment done. I once had terrible wet handling & thought it was my tires till I changed them but still same. Only after I did the 4 wheel computerised alignment did I find out my camber was very far out of specs which was prob caused when I changed my shocks. Protege 1st Gear April 8, 2005 Share April 8, 2005 If you want value for money, I will go for BF Goodrich G Sport. Its more value for money!
Jamesgetz 4th Gear April 8, 2005 Share April 8, 2005 yah, have heard pretty good reviews by users of the tyre. but the name just CMI... G spot
Protege 1st Gear April 8, 2005 Share April 8, 2005 Linus is on it. He has good comments on it also! Cheap and good in my own opinion. Maybe will try it out next time when I change tyres!
Apollo 1st Gear April 8, 2005 Share April 8, 2005 any tyres with low profile, 2 things can b dismissed fr ur list. 1/ comfort 2/ noise with ur specs for wet/dry n handling, i would say, go for ST115 instead. cos of it's deep groove which will discharge water pretty well. btw, dun b overgrossed by TDGQ (treadwear rating), consider a tyre that u can replace regularly if it is not too costly. afterall, the rubber compound will harden as a matter of time so the theoritical nos may not b reached. n if ur current tyre exhibit problems such as balding to one side, do carry out high speed balancing to correct this problem as soon as u got ur new tyres. Liuhao Neutral Newbie April 8, 2005 Share April 8, 2005 (edited) noted the wheel alignment issue. oh i think my previous tire is ST115. yeah...lots of noise. lots of grip. i am missing it... Edited April 8, 2005 by Liuhao
