Passim 1st Gear April 1, 2005 Share April 1, 2005 Back in the good old days when cars were all carburetted, one of the prefered way to enhance the performance is to do thing like valve polishing, valve seat adjusting, cylinder head surface polishing, port correction, boring and honing, etc, etc. This increase the enginee HP output by a big amount as the fit between moving parts are almost perfect and as a result little energy is lost to friction and heat build up. I wonder if this method is still being used today or has any one tried it. ↡ Advertisement
Yeobh 4th Gear April 1, 2005 Share April 1, 2005 Today's performance enchanment is maily porting and polising of engine cylinder head exhaust and intake manifolds. For diehard, besides polishing pistons they also weight and trim the pistons skirt to make that all the pistons are of the smae weigh. Louis Neutral Newbie April 1, 2005 Share April 1, 2005 (edited) sounds promising... what kind of power gains are we looking at in terms of percentage? do you know how much this would cost? any workshops in singapore with a flow bench and provide this service? thanks in advance Edited April 1, 2005 by Louis
Megalord Neutral Newbie April 1, 2005 Share April 1, 2005 Boring and honing seldom seen liao. Although i got the honing tool, i seldom use it nowadays too, i mean, i try not to use it liao. Not worth the effort, unless i am on holidays to slowly play around with clearance. But i think no one do polishing of cylinder head nowadays liao. Not worth the effort, unlike boring and honing. Lordalfa Neutral Newbie April 1, 2005 Share April 1, 2005 Polishing the piston heads reduces detonation. Swirl polishing valve heads do improve flow but most modern valves are factory polished.
Yeobh 4th Gear April 2, 2005 Share April 2, 2005 I once read an article published by Norton Abrasive, if I recall correctly, some experts in porting and polishing claim they can easily add another 15% more Hp. Well there are few shops in Spore doing cylinder head porting and poslishing, but not sure of thier skill level. Have not seen an air flow bench in Singapore. Megalord Neutral Newbie April 3, 2005 Share April 3, 2005 (edited) You can try... k** m*t**, i believe they got, and alot, but dunno if its applicable to small engines like cars type. They work quite alot on ships engine though. Wait, dun try. IMHO, I think they will not entertain small small requests, esp when they are always very busy at work.
