Potheader Clutched March 30, 2005 Share March 30, 2005 Dear all, As above, how do I remove patches on the bonnet due to me waxing on hot engine? Met up with my friends to W&W, that's why hot engine.. After 45mins of washing still moderately warm! Thanks in advance! ↡ Advertisement
Silver_blade Turbocharged March 30, 2005 Share March 30, 2005 Clay bar or car shampoo (to wash off excess) will do. Best to lift up the bonnet to cool it b4 polishing/waxing.
Setget Neutral Newbie March 30, 2005 Share March 30, 2005 Im not entirely sure wat u mean by "patches" I guess its more of streaks then "caked wax marks" right? IMHO, Some QD will probably solve yr problem. Try it. Else, just wash yr car again and try rewaxing the affected parts. If uve no time to rewash/rewax, then parking under the sun will break down the waxes faster so that by the time u rewash a week or a few days later the streaks will be gone. (this is especially true for pure carnu waxes, if thats wat u used) Lift up yr bonnet the next time whilst u wax the other parts of the car first to avoid such heating induced streaking yea. btw im guessing u have a black car! hehe good luck! Setget Neutral Newbie March 30, 2005 Share March 30, 2005 haha black cars are suckers for dust, streaks, bird poo, water marks blah blah blah In fact, i share yr agony too! Silver_blade Turbocharged March 30, 2005 Share March 30, 2005 Like ah. Than maybe you left the wax for a bit too long. Just give it a good wash and if it's still patchy ,buff it a bit more.
Potheader Clutched March 30, 2005 Author Share March 30, 2005 That day i wax it was quite dark in the CP as it was going to rain. Went I came out, it started raining! But the wax must have helped as no water stains that day!

Toalson 1st Gear March 31, 2005 Share March 31, 2005 (edited) That's why I usually only wax when the panels are cool. I kena once oso, but again I was fortunate as car light colored harder to be spotted. So nowadays I usually only wax if the car had rested like 2 or more hours. N during washing, pour more water on the bonnet to cool it. Then when wipping dry, leave open the bonnet. And when waxing still leave the bonnet open and leave the bonnet and the 2 frontal fenders last places to wax or polish. Normally I go to higher deck in the MSCP where its brighter and windy to wax or polish. But if lazy and no 1 wants to use the washing bay, I'll be stuck there or the handicap lot beside. Wat time and where u doing ur W&W tomolo? Maybe can join u but I'll maybe only wash and wax other areas as engine sure warm to touch.
