Taken from another local car forum. The reason was caused by improper installation of the turbo timer in JB. [sweatdrop]

It took them one whole day and i need to turn back to help fix my lighted engine light again. It was solved finally but when i about to reach JB custom it lighted again. I could not turn back as i am really tired and maybe i can go back to C&C tomolo moreover is already very late.

Well as is quite clear that C&C is going to charge me $100 for checking and that exclude fixin the problem. I turn back immed as i am sure that is becos of Moffiz and i am not going to bear the cost thus wana go in and ask them to fix back for me. I tried to prove my stand and true enuf.. when i switch off the turbo timer, off the engine and on it again, the engine light did not lighted up. Well as i am in the afternoon shift, i drove back home first and will try to apply leave and settle it later.

When is time to go to work, i got a shocked of my life when i drove my car out of the carpark. There is some problem with the transmission. It totally cant shift to another gear and no matter how mcuh i depressed the accelerator, the speed juz refused to go up. I am thinkin that i am doom cos the first thing tat came into my mind is my transmission is gone. I drove slowly at the speed 15km/h to my nearest workshop at Jurong and ask them to change it for me. (Take note : I off the engine when i reach there) The foreman tested my car and the car was alright... I was puzzled. I asked him to change the transmission oil for me since i am there and he advised me to remove the gadgets if this problems happen again. I drove happily to my work and till today, this incident happen 3 times and u know how i manage to solve this issue? I quickly stop the car and off the engine and start again... well my question comes in.....

1) Is it possible that the auto transimssion is controlled by the ECU?

2) If no, then can someone assist cos why when i off everything and on it again, the auto transmission is ok again?

3) If yes, i suspect that when Moffiz fix my timer, they might have short circuited my ECU that caused the ECU failed or watever reason that resulted in my auto transmission to fail in chaging gear.

Bros, the worst is i am going on an overseas trip tomorrow and i can only settle this when i come back on 15 July. Appreciate can someone enlighten me on this and will settle this once and for all.

A Zillion Thanks...

Yup really sad to hear of your problems with the JB ws.

I think their mechanics have very little experience & knowledge & they mostly apprentices learning as they go. [:p]

The worst part is if u ask them anything, they always talk like they very experienced & throw alot of smoke. Luckily I can smell the smoke a mile off. [nosebleed]

Hi to all, I have just joined as a member of MycarForum. I am 51 years old, have driven and owned cars for 30 years. Currently driving a new 6 months old Mitsubishi 1.6L GLX CVT auto. I love to drive cars that give me the 'kick'. Have installed and replaced some of the original parts to performance ones to get better boost and at the same time, ensuring that the ECU which is the 'heart' of the vehicle, will not be affected.

Though it's too late for me to air my view with regard to the problems faced by the driver, I thought perhaps I could share my opinion. The driver did not mention what car he is driving except that he mentioned C&C (I believe he is referring to Cycle & Carriage). So, it's either Mitsubishi or Kia vehicles. Though Mercedes is also under C&C, I doubt Mercs owners would go to JB to do up their vehicles.

Apart from the reason given that improper installation of the turbo timer was the cause of the problem, the other possibility is whether he has upraded the original ECU to a higher capacity ECU. The original ECU is not designed to take a turbo or even any devices beyond the ECU's capacity. It might even 'short-circuit' the entire engine just like our household electricity. The ECU has to be upgraded to a much higher capacity one which could easily costs S$1K plus. Only then will such ECU be able to take such heavy loading from the turbo and any other added devices.

I hear you but still got diff.

The more experienced mechs wil come to SG to work for the higher pay. The inexperienced mechs wont dare try here cos they know they cannot cut it in SG. [sweatdrop]

Also their mentality is thay if we go JB do stuff we cannot act tough with them when things go wrong cos we in their territory. [pirate]

But they try that in SG then they will learn a good lesson. [sly]

Neutral Newbie

pls take note, the map is not very to the scale but give a good landmark indication...

used to service my car in JB... take a pitch of salt, u pay peanut, u get monkey... always know wat u r going to pay for if not u will become a big carrot head... [smash]

if u are driving a car model tat is not selling in JB, u got to be carefull... they claim they know how to service but end of the day, they know nuts... sometime they change the wrong part... juz bo chap... example if ur service package include spark plug and u are using those iradium plug, better tell them not to change or check if they have exchange the plug with something else... not all stuff are cheap in JB... i heard their tyre is not as good quality as those sell in singapore...

Yah. I experienced long ago. I went to Hawk Tyre, b4 the JB customs, on the left.

The guy really try to do a con on me. They want to drain engine oil with the machine to suck the ATF. I tell him just drain from the nut below & he say oh, ok. WTF [confused]

Then 1 young indian guy come out from the office & from 20 feet at an angle where he even cannot see the 2 tyres on the far side, tell me my tyres r a gonner. Need to change?????

I thinking I just change new tyres not long ago leh????? So I smell a rat & to avoid him sabo my car, I tell him the car belongs to my father & I will check with him & come back.

Wow. I tell u I will never come back. U see the mech do the service also scared. Dunno which spanner to use, turn the oil filter the wrong way to remove. [sweatdrop][sweatdrop][sweatdrop]

My good experience with JB ws. [laugh][laugh][laugh]

Also once tried to change shocks at a shop just after the Shell on the left b4 Tropical Inn.

The guy quote me more ex than SG for oil not gas shocks. He must have saw my head like a big carrot leh.

While waiting for his quote, I saw his mech trying to do a computerised wheel alignment on a car there. Phew. [sweatdrop][sweatdrop][sweatdrop]

So inexperienced. Dont even know what to do. Like that how to check & rectify problems? [shakehead][shakehead][shakehead]

Actually a friend of mine installed a set of gauges from JB and he experienced severe loss of power after that.

He fixed the problem at a local workshop and the reason was due to bad wiring. [sweatdrop]

I went to JB workshop for find out the problem with the window of passenger seat and i ask the mech if he know how to trouble-shoot the window problem. He say okay, no problems.

I was so [dizzy][sweatdrop] that the mech cannot figure out the problem and he went to radio shop nearby repeatly and ask questions to the radio mech. [hur]

So i freaked out and ask him to stop check the window cos he take too long time.

He charge me the check service fee [sweatdrop] even he do not know how to torubleshoot the window problems.
