Shaun_double02 Neutral Newbie May 10, 2011 Share May 10, 2011 Hey fellas, Am totally new to car mods and simple upgrades. Never bought even bought a wind screen wiper for a car or added led lights. Driving a Nissan Murano 2.5A Am wondering if I wanted to change the Airfilter and wipers in the car, what do i need to look out for in purchasing of the shelf products. Where in Singapore is a good place to get a good variety of these products? What other aesthetic mods maybe available for a murano and where best to do it? Where in Singapore is a good place to get a good variety of these products? What other aesthetic mods maybe available for a murano and where best to do it? there are quite a few car accessories shops in SG. Ubi area should have the most shops. also, there are many aftermarket brands and materials pertaining to both air filter and wipers. what usually people do is to read for good feedbacks through car forums on certain branding before purchasing and try. for air filter, common brands are HKS, Hurricane, K&N, Simota, etc. for wipers, common materials like silicone, rubber, etc. aftermarket air filter usually give slight better performance but in-take particles which is bad for engine in long run. rubber wipers are the cheapest but with short lifespan due to easy wear and tear. silicone wipers are expensive but with better wiping. however, after months, silicone wipers tend to deteriorate and become blur again. so, it is more worth it to use rubber wipers since it is much cheap, you can change as and when you like. i think the best is to remain stock. Vroomtattat 2nd Gear May 10, 2011 Share May 10, 2011 Hi brudders, Got a naggy problem here with my Sunny N16. Everytime I start the engine, the idling rev will hit a high of 1,500 rpm and remains so when car is still not moving. The idle rpm will get back to the normal 500-700 rpm after driving around for a minute or two. Any idea what is wrong?
Shaun_double02 Neutral Newbie May 10, 2011 Share May 10, 2011 Awesome thanks for that. What do you mean by aftermarket? I'll look into brands and such and work out a price to value ratio and decide on a brand.

ECU is making the car lubricants heat up safely to sustainable levels as I understand it by starting with a lower A/F ratio.

Wipers are common items and so far, as long as it wipes and lasts longer than 3 months, it's a relatively cheap issue. Make sure you have the correct length measured. Sillicone wipers provides a good wipe but degrades around the same time as rubbers. They come with warranty for some time though. Rupper wipers are all over the place. Air filters is refering to aircon af or intake af? If originals/oems aircon/intake af, don't be chopped. There are many much cheaper oems out there. For branded intakes, I recommend original/N&N/Amsoil for better filtration over the metal mesh types. But to each his own. Aesthetic mods all over SG. Depends on what you want and how much you willing to pay for it. There are relatively good deals everywhere. You can customise a batman bumper or a care bear bumper, under carriage led lights or strobes around your car(do note that decorative lights are illegal in SG). You can customise your front grille to be black or with wire mesh or metal bars or whatever our money making geniuses has come out with as the latest. Please just don't sticker your car. Moredhel 2nd Gear May 10, 2011 Share May 10, 2011 hi. owner of a 2005 Sunny here. if im not wrong the qg16de runs on a timing chain right?. will the timing chain wear out or something? do i have to change it? current mileage is 82k Timing chains can normally last the life of the car. And by saying life, I mean 20 years or more. I believe the manual states the recommended replacement interval. It's a long long time. My sunny is now at around 380k km. Huh? What timing chain? Moredhel 2nd Gear May 10, 2011 Share May 10, 2011 hi mine is sunny manual in owner's handbook the ignition timing spec for 1.6 manual is 8 BTDC so to advance 2 degrees will end up with what degree BTDC? is it 10 or 6? bcos i believe there is some common misunderstanding about the diff btn advance & retard. pls advise thks. also how to reset map level? Advance to 10 degress BTDC. Advance ignition is to have the plugs fire sooner. But a general concept of advancing/retarding the engine. The concept behind advanced timing is to allow the air-fuel mixture to ignite prematurely, while the piston is still moving up toward Top-Dead-Center (TDC). How much you can advance really depend on the grade of fuel you use, as well as the "rate-of-burn". Faster burning fuel like V-Power may not allow (nor need) much timing advancement, as the moment the spark ignites, the flame front propagates throughout the combustion chamber rapidly, as compare with RON92 fuel, which those who have tried using know what I mean. Of course the combustion chamber design also plays a part. The final objective is to dial-in the most appropriate timing so that by the time the piston arrives at the TDC, the combustion is almost complete and the piston gets pushed down again at the maximum expansion pressure from the combustion. However do note over aggressive timing can lead to detonation, where the piston tries to compress an expanding air-fuel mixture. Needless to say this is extremely detrimental to the engine, so it will fall back into timing retard mode to protect itself (thank God for knock sensors). In the end this will defeat the objective. Bottomline not the more advanced the timing the better the gain. It has to match with the fuel to achieve the ideal power optimization.

Was looking to air intake i guess. Will look into original/N&N/Amsoil for better filtration over the metal mesh types. There's no size or model specific for filters? As per your recommendation. But how much is that going to set me back and will changing it actually improve fuel economy? The muranno is a real camel. ↡ Advertisement
