Hi,

I have raised the issue of the rear brake not releasing after a car wash (overnight)with SA but the problem still exist. I am driving a Aveo. Any body with similar problem? I have a accelerate quite a lot before a "Bang" then the car can move.

Hi!

Sounds like your brake shoes are sticking, possibly due to rust. There should be a little grease on the shoe contact area of the brake backplate. This will prevent your brake shoe from sticking to the backplate due to rust, especially after a wash and parking the car overnight.

Tell the mechs to 'grease the shoe contact area of the brake backplate'. That should solve the problem. [thumbsup]

Cheers!

Had this prob with my Vauxhall Astra in the UK.

Told by AA that GM cars have this prob. But my car was 7 yrs old.

Brake Drum was always sticking after some rainy/bad weather. Had to try and move car using 1st gear then shift into reverse, backwards and forward until it came lose.

Should ask for it to be replaced if problem persists.

Yeah....My brother-in-law drove his Astra G from Pasir Ris to Woodlands with the rear brake stuck, without even noticing it......until some friendly motorist from behind had to honk him at a traffic light to tell him that the rear wheel was smoking like crazy!! [laugh][laugh][laugh]

Thanks,

That what SA said when I tell them of the problem. They check and said no rust... No gearbox problem. They re-align the tension of the hand brake.

Maybe another situation is related. Sometimes, I feel that when I step on the brake, the vehicle actual surged forward before the brake comes in. It seems that the brake shoe is still in contact all the while.

They check and said no rust... No gearbox problem.

Of course there will be no rust by the time they recieve your car, because all the rust would have fallen off when you use your brakes on the journey to SA. [nod]

Adjusting the tension of the handbrake cable does not help. Sigh....if only they had more competent mechs.... [shakehead]

But do make sure that they fix the problem without you having to pay a cent. Their 'wear and tear' excuse is infamous! So do watch out. [;)]

Looks like the brake system is contaiminated with water vapour and presence of air bubbles may have cause soft, no or slow bracking reaction. The presence of water in the sytem may have reduce the brake slave clinder pistons from moving forward and back to home position.

Brake Fluid being hygroscopic - over time it will abosrbs water from the air, through breathers and even flexible hoses.Contaiminated fluid will gradually loses its heat resistance and will greatly affect its hydraulic braking ability.
