Mach Clutched June 3, 2005 Share June 3, 2005 Noticed that Shell Escape points can redeem for a Black & Decker car polisher, model KP600. Very tempted to get for fun and try out - anyone used this model before ? Also, to polish one car, can 1 applicator & buffing pad last for polishing the whole car, or must get another one and change halfway ? Anyone know the cost of the pads ? Thanks ↡ Advertisement
Silgt Neutral Newbie June 3, 2005 Share June 3, 2005 Also, to polish one car, can 1 applicator & buffing pad last for polishing the whole car, or must get another one and change halfway ? Anyone know the cost of the pads ? I saw a "real" detailing job being done by pro...went through 3~4 pads just for one panel alone. So that will mean you will need about 24 pads at least just to do up a car. But for us weekend warriors, two pads should be enough unless you are doing some serious job to your paintwork. Be prepared to spend $20~$30 for one quality pad. Never go cheap on pads...
Eddymerckx Neutral Newbie June 8, 2005 Author Share June 8, 2005 Hi all! Long time never log in as PC was down... I got the Black and Decker Waxer/Polisher ($69 at Home-Fix). Here's my review: Its good enough for waxing on and off and works particularly well with liquid type wax. I used the Soft99 Authentic Premium wax but the results not so good. Ended up waxing on by hand and remove by machine. When I used the 3M liquid wax, results were fantastic! Any recommendations for other good liquid waxes? The machine not very good for polishing though... Doesn't remove deeper swirls effectively. Or could it be the 3M Swirl Mark Remover I'm using? Any advice? Finally, I agree with one post that said the bonnets and pads its supplied with aren't so good... I had to buy a Microfibre bonnet before it managed to buff properly. Next step, I'm gonna attempt affixing Velcro fasteners so can use those pads used by Porter Cable...
Kavehxj Neutral Newbie June 8, 2005 Share June 8, 2005 hello, thanks for the review. i've bought the B&D orbitor as well but hve not gotten the chance to use it. may i know where did u buy the MF bonnet/pads and velcro fasteners? thanks kave
Eddymerckx Neutral Newbie June 8, 2005 Author Share June 8, 2005 I got the MF bonnet from Chow Enterprise at Sin Ming. They also have Velcro backed pads from 3M. I'll be trying those soon.
Kavehxj Neutral Newbie June 8, 2005 Share June 8, 2005 cool! thanks! i've search the pads for quite sometime, but i think the 3M does not fit the B&D, as it is too small. i believe our B&D's pad is 152mm while 3M is 132mm. was thinking of making my own. Gen2 Neutral Newbie June 8, 2005 Share June 8, 2005 (edited) B&D polisher is a good value for money if you are only using it to do light polishing, applying and removing wax. If you are thinking of removing swirl or surface defect with the B&D polisher, I think it is not strong enough to do the job. Make sure you use a good quality pad when polishing or waxing otherwise . Microfibre bonnet is a good tool for removing wax . Edited June 8, 2005 by Gen2
Mach Clutched June 8, 2005 Share June 8, 2005 How much did you pay for the MF bonnet bro ? Is there only 1 kind or a specific size/ model no. ? I am getting the B&D to try out, and would like to get all the necessary equipment in advance, so that I am not left with a half-baked semi-glossy car... Thx
Eddymerckx Neutral Newbie June 8, 2005 Author Share June 8, 2005 I paid $4.50/bonnet. As for different models, I'm not too sure if there are any others. I told the guy there it needed to fit a 6in pad and he says this one will so I bought one to try. Get a MF towel handy while you're buffing to reach those hard to reach areas... Is that the size of those 3M pads? Thanks for the info, saves me the trouble of going down to check... I'm thinking of ordering those pads featured in Autopia.org... very tempting! Mach Clutched June 9, 2005 Share June 9, 2005 Thanks for the tip. Went there today to try to get the MF bonnet, the uncle said no such thing... Only have MF cloth, dun have MF pad or bonnet that will fit 6". Ended up buying a white terry cloth-like bonnet & a brownish corduroy cloth bonnet to test, plus a piece of MF cloth. Dunno if this will work.
Gen2 Neutral Newbie June 9, 2005 Share June 9, 2005 Can I double check the bonnet you bought is it a MF ? Because for $4.50 a piece of MF bonnet is very very cheap.

Eddymerckx Neutral Newbie June 10, 2005 Author Share June 10, 2005 Hi Mach & Gen2! When I bought the bonnet, I asked for a MF one and the guy said this was it. It felt similar to the MF towel I bought elsewhere.. But then again maybe I'm the one who kena SMOKED.. I saw the corduroy-type bonnet too.. but my instincts tell me these are more for polishing, not sure if the brudders here agree..?
