Since the mobil 1 is so cheap now can use it for 1K servicing? I saw only left 5W30 type left at carrfour, that ok for 1K and subsequent service? It will not void warranty will it? since is not the 'recommended' oil?

Pls advise, thanks.

I suggest that dun use such a thin oil if your vehicle have not break in yet. And it is a waste of such a good oil to drain out at 5k km. Use it after the 10k km servicing.

Ideally, go for the cxxxxxe Triple R 5W40 $29.90/ 5L bottle(Fully synthetic) or Castrol GTX 15W40 $32/4L bottle. It gives better protection for your new engine.

Even though it is cheap, it is a waste. The oil IS that GOOD! Can last 15k km no problem. If drain out at 1k, you will feel the hurt. The M1 is worth its weight in gold and if can get cheaply, better reserve it for more intensive times.

hi...i have a complimentary car service package from CAS which they'll use 4 litres of multi grade engine oil(got it free from a magazine subsciption)...i just went for my 1k servicing n was told by the servicing guy that SA will use mineral oil up to 10k...but i need to use this complimentary car service package within 6mths or else it'll expire...is it advisable to use their multi grade engine oil at this stage when my car's still very new n running in? or is it better if i use it after the 5k servicing...

any help would be much appreciated [thumbsup]

If free, why not? Best to spend as little money as possible during break-in because the oil will drained at very short intervals. Very wasteful.

well, M1 is good. I assume you mean 0W40? but one thing. it probably won't happen in a chevy engine, but the oil IS a bit thin, and does break down faster than other oils in my car. Hell, I'm using 10W60 racing oil, and it still does break down... whahahaha...

(edited)

The main gripe about the M1 0W40 is that it is rated 229.3 and it can't hold its grade past 5k miles. shakehead.gif So many users these sorry numbers. Castrol SLX-A3 is rated 229.3 and it stayed as a SAE30 oil up to 10k miles. You should try Castrol Formula R 10W60 then. I believe it will hold up.

Currently SA mentioned that if after the 1k you can request for fully synthetic and skip the 5k servicing and service at 10k. That means effectively you got 2 free servicing instead of 3. Will you recommend doing this??

Go for 30wt oil. You will feel reduced component drag definitely. The car is still quite new from the mileage. It can take the oil grade and gain a lot from it.
