Heard of Jacobs Electronics?

Anyone heard or tried Jacob's Electronics before? How is the performance compared to MSD, Cranes, Mallory, etc?

Jacobs has highly tunable ignition controls which are also very expensive. They are famous for drag racing ignitions and NOS controllers.

 

Performance wise, for a street performance car MSD, Mallory or Crane Cams ignition is good enough.

Hmmm... I got an offer for a 2nd hand Jacobs and was wondering whether its any good for the car.

 

Would the performance be better or more reliable than MSD, etc?

The ignition controller should still work fine, the coil may be worn and have lower output compared to brand new.

 

Jacobs have a good history of ignitions, comparable to MSD for sure

how much would you pay for a 2nd hand set? about 10 months old? Supposedly in good condition...

S$850 for both? That's a good price leh.

 

The Pro Street Team System already cost US$303 and the optotimer will cost around US$200.

 

Most 2nd hand items get a 50% slash irregardless how new.

I was told that 850 is for the ignition timing controller/rev limiter and full throttle activation switch. Not the full system with the cables and stuff...

That's only the Optimiser and not the ignition kit. U'd need to start off with the ignition kit first before using the controller, $850 is too much to pay for the controller only.

 

Look for a ignition kit first, by itself the CDI module will fire according to the rpms of your engine. Usually multispark at low rpms up to 3000rpm and single big spark from 3000rpm up.

I have confirmed the items.... I will be getting the following for 580.

 

Energy Pak - Computer

High Performance Ultra Coil

Optotimer Timing Controller

 

Or only the first 2 items for 480. What do you all think? 2nd hand... worth it? Or should I plonk in a little more for MSD/Mallory, etc...
