Sheltie2306 Neutral Newbie March 12, 2005 Share March 12, 2005 (edited) Just did a freelance (and free of charge) ecu re-tuning for someone, result was very positive, and the owner was very happy. The power and smoothness of the car improve tremendously. I am not saying that I am good, but the previous PROFESSIONAL tuner did a dam lousy job for him. What I did was just simply to get things right. Without going into detail, any decent tuner by looking at the maps, straight away should be able to tell that the guy don Edited March 12, 2005 by Sheltie2306 ↡ Advertisement

Hitman Neutral Newbie March 12, 2005 Share March 12, 2005 Thats the sad truth .... if I got money, all I need to do is write an email to an ECU producing company and say I interested in distribution rights for SGP You pay , they send the products ..... but no training involved. Anyhow hantam only ... although called Authorised Distributor .... Unlike the bigger companies ... like car companies , they need to send their mechanics and engineers for training in Japan or Korea .... small timers no need, just pay and distribute
Sheltie2306 Neutral Newbie March 12, 2005 Author Share March 12, 2005 (edited) I am doing for hobby only, not for $$. In fact, ecu tuning is a "generic" thing. The feature and interface of each aftermarket ecu product are different but the principle are all the same. It's just the matter of reading the manual and understand how to operate it. It's the correct understanding of the fundamental of engine tuning that's important. Edited March 12, 2005 by Sheltie2306

Sheltie2306 Neutral Newbie March 12, 2005 Author Share March 12, 2005 What after market ecu do you have? Some of them can only tune by authorise dealer, because they control the distribution of interfacing software. Anyway, for NA cars, I suggest you drop the idea. The $ per bhp is simply not worth it. The original ecu is already very well optimized. The after market ecu can squeeze out the most another 10%, which is hardly noticeable.

Sheltie2306 Neutral Newbie March 12, 2005 Author Share March 12, 2005 (edited) Hey, please lah .. I am not a professional tuner, and I don't want to mention the brand and made. I am doing it for my weekend fun only. If you have means and interested to tune the piggyback yourself, let me know, I think I have lots of information to share with you. Maded Neutral Newbie March 12, 2005 Share March 12, 2005 Know a friend who owns a greddy-ed soluna... altho NA, the performance gain was quite noticable...
Sheltie2306 Neutral Newbie March 12, 2005 Author Share March 12, 2005 (edited) "Noticable" is something relative. Frankly, I have no experience of tuning high capacity NA cars, but had seen many friends tried like crazy, spent lots of $$ on their 1.6, and still hardly can feel anything. However, for forced induction machine, simply up the boost, feed enought fuel for the correct air-fuel ratio, and the feeling is dam siok already. Koren Clutched March 12, 2005 Share March 12, 2005 hmm.. heard bout this safc thingy.. merely looks like a digital guage.. but works like a piggyback too?
Sheltie2306 Neutral Newbie March 12, 2005 Author Share March 12, 2005 The apexi SAFC is a "fuel only" computer, it's a piggyback. It modifies the "mass air flow sensor" signal to alter the air fuel ratio. Normally, people use SAFC to lean out a little at high rpm or full trottle situation to get a more power for NA cars. For add on turbo of original NA cars, SAFC can be used to add fuel when on boost. Some people have the wrong perception that it can help to save fuel, that will not work, because it's a piggyback that work based on modifiying the air flow signal, and it will work only in the open loop region (high rpm, heavy trottle). Sheltie2306 Neutral Newbie March 12, 2005 Author Share March 12, 2005 No, it's not It's a full management ecu, with fuel, iginition and boost control. It's needs a laptop, wideband O2 sensor and knock sensor to tune.
Maded Neutral Newbie March 12, 2005 Share March 12, 2005 i'd hardly consider the soluna a high-cap NA car Well we played with with the air/fuel/throttle map whatever u call it... and altho there are no actual dyno figures, the backside-dyno did notice a lil more kick... It was an experiment actually... buy a cheap 1.5 and dump in some mods.
