Lgary Neutral Newbie February 27, 2005 Share February 27, 2005 Hello Pple, Hey I'm new to this forum, came across it when I was surfing to find out more information on the Audi A4. I've got a real dilemma. I've been driving my Ford Mondeo for about 2 years now, bought it new from Regent at 97k with 3 yrs free servicing and 5 yrs warranty. Recently, just for fun, I floored the accelerator pedal and thereafter, the engine started to become very noisy each time I drive the car - was quite disappointed. I'm thinking of changing to an Audi A4 2.0mu - they are offering quite a good deal on the current model before the facelifted one comes into the SG market. I test drove the vehicle, really like the interior and the "solidness", but given that my Mondeo is still under free servicing and warranty, I'm really not sure if changing at this time is a good idea.... Any of you been in a similar situation and can offer some advise ? Or if you're currently driving an Audi A4 2.0mu, perhaps you can enlighten me on the pros and cons about the car ? Will really appreciate it !! Thanks all ! ↡ Advertisement
Toyotaman Neutral Newbie February 27, 2005 Share February 27, 2005 Hi LGary, Welcome to the forum- I have owned the 2.0MU for 2 years plus. My previous car was a Toyota and it was a big change- solid feel, the leather stitched steering, etc, etc. Well, the Audi has not been trouble free with lots of minor electronic issues (and one big brake problem). But the excellent service from Premium Auto more than makes up for it. I've always wanted an Audi after watching Ronin (can't afford an S8) I've always liked the looks of the A4, esp the current model so no regrets. Plinius Neutral Newbie February 27, 2005 Share February 27, 2005 hi, OMG! engine become very noisy after flooring? that sound badz....i dun think this is the norm..did you sent to RM for troubleshooting? Karsoon Neutral Newbie February 28, 2005 Share February 28, 2005 Hi LGary, I just accompanied a fren of mine yesterday to PA to test drive Audi A4 2.0mu His first experience with the car was the timeless design on the exterior. Next, was the solid built interior, thirdly was the engine performance. When he shifted the gears, the car just pawed forward without any jerk. He loves the "S" mode and the 6 speed auto shift which most cars in that category only have 5. And lastly was the entire package which the sales executive gonna give him. He is currently driving a Ford Mondeo as well, but as the car is already 5yr old, he will be scrapping the Ford to get the new Audi. Basically, my advice to him will be the same to you: 1. Is the new downpayment and the monthly installment financially comfortable for you? 2. Is your currently ride able to give you that kinda justification of the new ride is giving you? 3. How much urge in you in getting that dream car of yours? Do some deep thinking and I am sure the answer will be clear.

Karsoon Neutral Newbie February 28, 2005 Share February 28, 2005 Yep! Glad to inform tat the final batch of 2.0mu all come with 6 speed and "S" mode. I was amazed too when I brought my fren to test drive one. Awesome !
Lgary Neutral Newbie February 28, 2005 Author Share February 28, 2005 Hey Guys, Thanks for all the feedback and good advise ! Really appreciate it. Unfortunately today when the sales rep from PA called me, it seems like the upfront payment for the Audi is quite high, considering I can only get my Mondeo off for abt 57k ! Considering the loan, etc, I may need to fork out quite a large sum of money. Very sad. The final batch of A4 comes quite feature packed with 3-point seat belts, rear reading lamps, and of course the 'S' mode Karsoon was referring to. But I guess looking at finances now, I'll be sticking to my Mondeo at least for the next 2 to 3 years (I guess it makes logical sense too, since the Mondeo will be under warranty for another 3 years - but really sad...). :( Unless anyone knows how I can get a better sell off price for my Mondeo, I'll have to stick with it for some time. Just gotta get Regent Motors to rectify the noise coming from the engine tomorrow. Thanks again for all the advise and feedback.
Kelpie 2nd Gear February 28, 2005 Share February 28, 2005 1. IMHO, why compare a Ford Mondeo with a Audi A4, they are of different class, so hard to compare apple to apple. The price alone is way apart. 2. If you have the mean, go for Audi A4, is a much better car, anytime. Regards,
Plinius Neutral Newbie February 28, 2005 Share February 28, 2005 Hey dude, dun be sad manz! the Mondeo is not a bad car afterall, I have test drove it and really like it....it is on the top of of my car shopping list....try http://sclubfocus.dyndns.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=9 to find ways to make your drive more interesting......... cheers... Karsoon Neutral Newbie March 1, 2005 Share March 1, 2005 Lgary, No worries. As I always advice my friends that only change cars when you are comfortable with the finance schemes. Do watch out for the rainy days as well and most importantly, be contented in what you have now. Mondeo is a good car to own and just enjoy the ride to the max. Who knows, after 3yr down the road, the new A4 price will be most more cheaper and affortable as compare to now.
Delvin Neutral Newbie March 1, 2005 Share March 1, 2005 Hi Karsoon, Do you know how much is the Audi A4 2.0mu?
Lgary Neutral Newbie March 1, 2005 Author Share March 1, 2005 Hi Delvin, The A4 2.0mu is selling for 121k right now and I think UOB is giving a 20% interest rebate if you book soon. However, I heard that of today, the loan interest rates have risen back to 2.75% as compared to 2.45%. Its quite a stocked car and if you're comfortable with the price, you should go for it ! Lgary Neutral Newbie March 1, 2005 Author Share March 1, 2005 Yep, thanks for the consoling thoughts. Rational thinking also would bring me against getting the car. Its just the occasional "itch" that makes me wanna change cars every now and then ;)
Delvin Neutral Newbie March 1, 2005 Share March 1, 2005 Thanks. Not so soon, I am in the same shoe as you. My mondeo is just 3 yo.

Karsoon Neutral Newbie March 1, 2005 Share March 1, 2005 Yep! You are right about the bank interest rate rising and also nomore bank rebates. My fren just managed to purchase one of the A4 2.0 last sunday and he signed the agreement yesterday. Will be collecting his Altas Grey in mid March. Lgary Neutral Newbie March 1, 2005 Author Share March 1, 2005 Hmm, Just sent my car to RM to get the noise fixed. Apparently some booster cap gave way and they replaced it. Feels really smooth again and no more noise ! - hopefully this can downplay my urge to buy the Audi. Wind insulation is really bad on the Mondeo, anyone know how this can be improved ? Like fitting new insulation rubber on the doors and windows ? ↡ Advertisement
