I can do a DIY top-drain/refill but I would probably need to do that 6 times in order to dilute the mineral to make it more synthetic. Within a day would be [sweatdrop][sweatdrop][sweatdrop] !

Do you know of any workshop that know how to change Toyota Axio ATF? This Toyota Axio CVT gearbox got no dipstick, only drain plug. Not sure how to top up the ATF.

I agree about syn ATF but all other things being equal, the syn ATF sud b more resistant to breakdown due to high heat.

Of course different Dexron ATF have different qualities but I've used RP Max ATF on my Corona for several years & it's also an Aisin autobox so I sud b able to use it safely on my Optra Aisin autobox too.

Only thing is Toyota Type T-IV is Dexron IV & RP ATF is Dexron III. But my Optra needs a minimum of Dexron III, so RP is still OK. [thumbsup]

Deterioration of ATF due to excessive heat u cannot see as it wil gradually cause high wear & tear on the autobox. Maybe after some time it wil breakdown & require an overhaul.

As for installing an after-market ATF cooler, I need to check if my car has 1 already installed or not.

Just do it gradually as most ATF can b mixed with other brands. I don't know what was put in by the previous owner & I just topped-up with a little RP ATF so as long as it's Dexron III & above, I can mix. [nod]

Just do a drain & fill at every 10K km service sud b more then enough. I used to let my ATF run to 60K km b4 doing a flush on my previous car.

I'm just helping a guy from the axio club. His car 50K already, couldnt find any workshop able to change the Axio CVT ATF. Most workshop say dont know. It is a really different gearbox. There is no dipstick, only a drain plug. Once drain, dont know how to top up the ATF. [knife]

One workshop even told him to check wif other workshop and let him know how to change. [laugh]

i m not driving a Axio...

there should be a return line back to the gearbox after the ATF came out from the oil cooler. It should be from there... else how to fill? [laugh]

How much to oil to refill??? There is no indication of the level of oil in the gearbox. The manual is all in Japanese, no English version available.

Even if your car already has some form of ATF cooling..... it never hurts to give it slightly more. [sly] Just install lah.... not too expensive. All in about $200. if its using the last few rows of your radiator, that hardly provides much cooling for the ATF.

Easy... measure how much you pump out. Then refill with the same amount.

Guess that guy is stuck with having to go to the appointed ws of his PI. [sweatdrop]

Maybe he can try contacting some of the Axio forums in Japan for some help. Or email Toyota Japan for assistance?

I guess this is 1 of the problems of buying a PI. [knife]

Cost is not the problem.

Problem is poor or incorrect installation by our "super" mechs here. [dizzy][dizzy][dizzy]

Later no end of problems, 1 after another. Within a year, I have to sell the car due to having nightmares & nervous breakdown.

I prefer to stick to original & OEM as far as possible unless the manufacturer says it's good or OK. Then the challenge is to find a qualified mech to install at a reasonable price. [rolleyes]

I let another Optra owner install & wait a couple of years & check with him if got any problems or not. If all is good & fine, then I'll put it in. [sly]
