Ghostrider 3rd Gear February 20, 2005 Share February 20, 2005 Thought it stands for Low Emissions Vehicle? LEV for Honda stands for Low End VTEC..... No offence....just a joke only.

Assassin Clutched February 20, 2005 Share February 20, 2005 Any oil is good. Do you know that your Honda engine is spec'd to run 20wt oil? I definitely wont be running 20wt oils ... usually hit 4K-5K rpm levels.
Genie47 1st Gear February 20, 2005 Share February 20, 2005 Actually the 4k RPM above levels are prolonged hard driving. Those momentary sprints to get out to the expressway don't count. You have to hold the 4k and above RPM for a long time like those "NSH speeding ticket collection" competition.
Assassin Clutched February 20, 2005 Share February 20, 2005 Ic ic ok.. anyway.. am intending to try out this RP 30wt first. Terence told me he's got some new stuff coming in soon. Might give it a try for my next servicing.
Genie47 1st Gear February 20, 2005 Share February 20, 2005 New stuff? Schaeffers' Anyway, I miss the 5W20 in my car. The level of quietness is unsurpassed. The Conoco 5W30 seems pretty good by many standards. Yeoman and Godfinger likes it.
Assassin Clutched February 20, 2005 Share February 20, 2005 Have to check with him liao. Will see what else he has when my next servicing comes up.
Zakuii 1st Gear February 21, 2005 Share February 21, 2005 >5000km travelled on 5W20 and it still feels good. Engine noise is indeed softer compared to 10W40.
Ghostrider 3rd Gear February 21, 2005 Share February 21, 2005 Glad you saw the lighter side of this... You should have seen the Honda SE face turn so black when my friend made the comment.... Same question....on the LEV badge..what it stands for. So he innocently remarked....Low End VTEC ??....
Vino Clutched February 21, 2005 Share February 21, 2005 Hi Genie47/Zakuii, My car is already 2 years old liao...is it too 'old' for this 5w20? or is 5w30 better in this case?
Genie47 1st Gear February 21, 2005 Share February 21, 2005 2yrs? Hmmm... try the 10W30 first. If there are no issues like oil disappearing for no apparent reason (blow-by) or leaks, go down to 5W30 in the next change. Still nothing, go down to 5W20 finally . Vino Clutched February 21, 2005 Share February 21, 2005 Beside more fuel efficient, what's the advantage of using a thinner base oil btw?
Genie47 1st Gear February 21, 2005 Share February 21, 2005 Better lubrication. Engine gets protected at start up and does very well even in normal day to day operation. Just don't go tracking or go on "speeding ticket collection" along NSH.
Mobycane Clutched February 22, 2005 Share February 22, 2005 Hi Genie, need ur advice on wat brand(s) do u recommend for 10w30? My ride is currently Lancer 1.5GDI, about 3.5yrs old. Many thanks!
Genie47 1st Gear February 22, 2005 Share February 22, 2005 Holy! GDI! I think it is better if you use an oil with a higher amount of detergents or an ester based oil. Redline is ester based and I think BC stocks 10W30. The other ester based oil is Chemlube and it is also available as 10W30. You can try RP 10W30 and arguably it is the cheapest of all mentioned. ↡ Advertisement
