Thanks a lot, mate! I have done a lot of research and found that no car of the same model sells cheaper than I paid. By the way, what kind of engine oil are you using? Please advice.

I used to service my car at Stamford Tyre, so using Havoline 20W50 since I got my car. Now I service my car at my usual mechanic shop - recommended by my Dad. Its actually a spare parts shops at Yew Tee area, but can also do parts repalcement/repair such as shock absorber, timing belt, etc.

 

I plan to use Mobil Delvac MX 15W40 in my next oil change, as per Genie47's advise. You can check out the older thread on the discussion on Heavy Duty Engine Oil (HDEO), which is better for old cars.

This car uses the same carburetted 2E engine that some sleeper Starlets have. Imagine 80HP pushing a 700kg chassis. But on a G6-G7 chassis, pretty much like a bus.

 

OK about this engine. Get the carburetor serviced. Clean out the gum and junk. It is an Aisan with an autochoke which needs a feed from the coolant. Tune the carburetor when you are using RON92 gas. At least you can use cheaper fuel this way.

 

Next thing to change is the ignition wires. Ignition wires do wear out and they have a lifespan of 10yrs.

 

The dampers should be next and watch out for the CV joints. Since it is an old car, they may go anytime. Listen for the tell tale clacking sound as you turn. Also look for damage on engine mounts. They too last only 10yrs barring accidents.

Great low end torque but you don't much on the high end. Basically longer stroke. Good enough for you.

that's very true! usually when starting off from traffic light, i can pick up better than the average vehicle. of course, being a manual car helps.

 

unfortunately, the highest speed i've ever travelled so far is 130 km/h. speed exceeding 130 km/h seems to be increasing very slow.

That is the drawback of having a longer stroke. So technically, you are driving a Tercel.

Yap, looks like the previous owner had transplant the engine from a Tercel.

But I do not know what a Tercel looks like.

Go to Cardomain to see. Basically it is a cheaper Corolla. When it first came out, it is called the Corolla Tercel much like what the Altis is now called in Singapore as Corolla Altis. Knowing Toyota, they will drop the Corolla name and make the car unique and distinct from the Corolla. That is how they sell cars. Make people think it is a Corolla while it is on its way from being anything but a Corolla.

You can try Autobac for the "Toyota Corolla : service and repair manual". Saw it when Autobac was still operating at Paya Lebar.

But I do not know my car's technical specification. Do you have some knowledge about your car's specs?

My knowledge in this area is very limited. What type of technical specifications are you looking for? If its things like rims specification for such car, replacement parts, etc. I'm sure the vendor/mechanic may be able to advise. Or perhaps other fellow MCF'er here could help you?

Things like air pressure for the tyre, what is the most suitable engine oil for this model and so forth..
