Pisces69 6th Gear February 15, 2005 Share February 15, 2005 Dun noe whether is it the tyre hitting the top or the mudplash hit the ground ? Though I saw some abrasion on the mudsplash end, I cannot confirmed ======================== There is a rubber "stopper" which is supposed to hit the suspension arm. Check if it's worn or damaged. Get it changed if it's damaged. Costs only about $5 ea. so change both then. ↡ Advertisement
Stevegring Neutral Newbie February 15, 2005 Author Share February 15, 2005 Like that ah..do I have to go underneath to find the sticker?
Pisces69 6th Gear February 15, 2005 Share February 15, 2005 The sticker for the timing belt is normally stuck aroung where all the belts r located inside the engine bay. Open the bonnet to look for it. No need to go below as it sud b placed where u can see it easily. Try to look for it. Maybe some mechanics will place it at the driver door pillar or inside the glove box. These r the other places to put it. If don't have, then don't take risks & change the belt as most pple won't change if they planning to sell the car.
Stevegring Neutral Newbie February 15, 2005 Author Share February 15, 2005 (edited) Is the rubber stopper at the top or bottom of the shock absorber? Edited February 15, 2005 by Stevegring
Pisces69 6th Gear February 15, 2005 Share February 15, 2005 Look where the rear suspension "arm" moves up & down. U sud see a rubber stub sticking out & as the arm moves up, a corresponding bump will come into contact with it. It is there to dampen the impact if the suspension bottoms out. Ask your mechanic to check it for u & he can show it to you.

Stevegring Neutral Newbie February 15, 2005 Author Share February 15, 2005 What sort of spark plugs are you using? I found that the cheap cheap one is $2, then the better one is $3 and then the gilat one is $4.50. Does the better one improve FC?
Pisces69 6th Gear February 15, 2005 Share February 15, 2005 For toyota, try to stick with Denso. I only used the "made in japan" plugs until recently when I am trying the made in thai Denso's. Still unable to comment as the r only a couple of months old. My Japan plugs were changed every 20K km & they were as smooth as the first day of use. Don't let the mechanic or spare part shop pple con u that a plug is Made in Japan just bcos it has the word "japan" on it. It must clearly say on the box "Made In Japan" Never use the MY made plugs. They only lasted less than 5K km b4 the engine became rough & jerky. For my model, Japan plugs cost abt $4.50 ea & thai $3.50ea.
Stevegring Neutral Newbie February 15, 2005 Author Share February 15, 2005 I think Denso is the one that cost $4.50 one. Do you have the exact description of it?
Mivec9 1st Gear February 15, 2005 Share February 15, 2005 imagine the transfer fee alone is already abt $800+/-... damm.... they simply do some paper works and transfer the name only mah... where the need for $800 right?? Agreed !!! Somemore transfer fees is proportional to paper value !!! What logic is this?? They use different computers or need 2 people to handle if it's a Ferrari ??? Deserved to be my transfer fee was much cheaper. think less $200.
Mivec9 1st Gear February 15, 2005 Share February 15, 2005 Like that ah..Hmm..Mine is 185/65/R14. Dun mind teach me how to read this. I have forgotten how to read it. I tried pressing but it only goes up once. So I think it's still ok if I jus seat 4 person. Dun noe whether is it the tyre hitting the top or the mudplash hit the ground ? Though I saw some abrasion on the mudsplash end, I cannot confirmed whether it was the recent one or the previous owner's mishandling. The confirmed price for the door seal is $58. 185/65/R14 -> 185 is the width thickness of the tyres 65 is the height thickness of the tyres, hence 70 will be higher than 65 R14 is the size of the tyres. Pisces69 6th Gear February 15, 2005 Share February 15, 2005 Has anybody noticed how strange the measurements on tires are? The width of 185 is in mm, the 65 is aspec ratio of the width & the R14 is in inches. Looks like a compromise between american & european manufactures. Mivec9 1st Gear February 15, 2005 Share February 15, 2005 never really notice...but guess many r using R15....and R13 is gonna extinct soon...haha and i am still using R13!
Pisces69 6th Gear February 15, 2005 Share February 15, 2005 Well it depends on the car u drive. On some small cars, can still find R12 as standard. R13 used to be the most common but looks like now R14 is most common. In 10 years time, prob R15 will b the norm.
Mivec9 1st Gear February 15, 2005 Share February 15, 2005 Just came back from Yew Tee Workshop. The door seal is abt $50 - $60. My notebook is not with me now. Will tell u the exact figures tonight. I asked the shop how much they are charging for the timing belt replacement. He quoted me $290, which includes the oil seal x 2, bearings x 2, timing belt, air con belt, fan belt and water pump..basically everything that is there. Do you think it is a good deal? Also, for the rear absorbers, one TYK gas filled absorber is abt $70. Good or bad? Pisces and Gantan, U guys may want to feedback on this.. super cheap!!! pls recommend the addr of workshop to me....thk u in advance
Hoppie24 1st Gear February 15, 2005 Share February 15, 2005 hi bro, I used to own that car. All i can comment is that it's a very reliable car. 0-100metre tested using G-Tech pro is 12sec BHP/Torque i dunno :P But it's running on Carburetor engine, i can get around 500km for full tank. The tank is 45litre if i dun remember wrongly.
