Sheltie2306 Neutral Newbie January 22, 2005 Share January 22, 2005 Hi, anyone know the detail of this product? It has one screw to adjust the idling fuel pressure. How about rise rate? Is it 1-1psi, i.e. 1psi fuel pressure increase corresponding to 1psi manifold pressure increase ? Or it's it with "rise rate" feature? if was, how many psi fuel pressure to 1psi intake pressure?? ↡ Advertisement
Elfenstar 3rd Gear January 22, 2005 Share January 22, 2005 Can't remember the rate details, but it in my club, we use it to increase the rate of fuel according to boost pressure from the turbo. We don't usually install it unless we've installed larger injectors though. Its largely to prevent too much fuel when the car is off boost.
Vtim 3rd Gear January 23, 2005 Share January 23, 2005 I think it's 1 : 1.
Sheltie2306 Neutral Newbie January 23, 2005 Author Share January 23, 2005 Thanks. So you lower the pressure when installed with larger injector? In fact, I just installed a larger injector, and is encountering fuel pressure drop during high injector cycle. Someone suggested it could be the fuel regulator is trying to drive for a too high pressure when on boost, and the fuel pump is not able to catch up to sustain the pressure, that's why I am checking. Sheltie2306 Neutral Newbie January 23, 2005 Author Share January 23, 2005 Ooi ... friend, don't need to do "double" guard duty ?? By the way, I am doing reservist now, really kana guard duty, sxxt .... Any documented info on this 1:1.7 ?? I tried reading the Japanese manual but catch no ball. If it's 1:1.7, then it's too much for me, may have to remove it then.
Vtim 3rd Gear January 23, 2005 Share January 23, 2005 now ok lar! got confinement lady to take care of the 1st twin, the 2nd is still in KKH, under weight & can only discharge when he's above 2kg I not too sure where to find the info ley
Elfenstar 3rd Gear January 24, 2005 Share January 24, 2005 Okies the usual mods that need this is a combination of larger injectors, larger turbo and a higer capacity full pump. the prob is that all this will cause overfueling while the car is running off boost which will foul the injecters etc. So we run the regulator to provide the same amount of fuel as if we were running on stick injectors while off boost and thereafter provide the right amount of fuel as the bosst increases. Sheltie2306 Neutral Newbie January 25, 2005 Author Share January 25, 2005 Understood. But personally, I feel it's not a very "well controlled" method. The engine run in too many possible load (manifold pressure) and rpm combination. The regulator is mechanical and can only provide a rough compensation across the whole range. Just my personal opinion, hope no offence. I used the regulator just to increase fuel supply before got the injector upgraded. I am using piggyback ecu to remap AFR of the entire map. Elfenstar 3rd Gear January 25, 2005 Share January 25, 2005 yup, you right. but its just that the min flow pressure from the larger injectors is usually bigger than that of the stock injectors, so there had to be a way to keep it within the original specs while off boost. We're talking 300cc vs 440cc(min) injectors. basically its just there to set the max amt of fuel allowed while the ecu controls the actual fueling amounts. Dwoon 1st Gear January 25, 2005 Share January 25, 2005 Which piggy back you using? Can re-map the closed looped fuel maps? Hmmm..... always thought that piggyback can only map the open loop.... unless there's some latest version that can do the closed loop as well. Sheltie2306 Neutral Newbie January 25, 2005 Author Share January 25, 2005 (edited) Hi, 300-400cc injector ... sounds like the 1.8T engine ?? Edited January 25, 2005 by Sheltie2306
Sheltie2306 Neutral Newbie January 25, 2005 Author Share January 25, 2005 (edited) I am using the utec, my car is the bug eye sti. Actually, piggyback can, but should not re-map the closed looped fuel map. The reason being the original ecu will correct it back to the original 14.7 with it Edited January 25, 2005 by Sheltie2306
Dwoon 1st Gear January 25, 2005 Share January 25, 2005 (edited) Whoa....... Bug-eye Sti...... BTW, what's the stuff going in ah apart from Utec tuning? Walbro 255? VF22? 700cc jets? Front mount? Boost 1.?? bar? 3" all the way? Would love to hear & understand your project leh....... this would be interesting...... Sheltie2306 Neutral Newbie January 25, 2005 Author Share January 25, 2005 For power mod, got the Walbro 255, PE1820 turbo and PE650cc injector. Just installed the turbo and injectors 2 weeks back. The PE1820 suppose to push enough air for 400bhp, but the tuning is not very straight forward, encountering few problems. Original ECU complaining over boost (CEL light), that one should be able to by pass by a switch setting on utec, next more headache is fuel pressure drop at high injector flow. Someone in US forum suggested because of the Sard regulator pushing for too high fuel pressure and fuel pump can't catch up. Sounds reasonable, but no information about sard fuel regulator, that's why asking around. I will do some trial and error to verify that. Another major issue is the air flow bottle neck seems to be on the intake and exhaust now rather then the turbo, can't push much more air in even at 1.5bar. But I am reluctant to do major mod on exhaust as it will make the car too uncomfortable. May be let me sort out the fuel pressure problem, then try out more aggressive timing and AFR, if can push it up to above 350bhp should be happy. Dwoon 1st Gear January 25, 2005 Share January 25, 2005 Whoaaa.......... power enterprise stuff.... But isn't your Walbro 255 ltr/hr the high pressure model (there's also the normal presure model). I know of some scoobies running 400+ hp & never use fuel regulator leh..... in fact, I was advised not to use it if possible as its just a crude method to get by w/o upping the injector size. But if you're not gonna do anything to free up the outflow in the down, mid & catback ...... don't think its easy to push for 400 bhp leh. But frankly, I should think your stock setup can already push 400 bhp by clearing the flow using 3" through and tuning with up boost to 1.4 bar. Your stock is VF35? I know that VF22 already achievable.....
Sheltie2306 Neutral Newbie January 25, 2005 Author Share January 25, 2005 I used the fuel regulator to temporarily increase fuel flow of stock inject last time, before the turbo and injector upgrade. Actually, with larger injector, it
Dwoon 1st Gear January 25, 2005 Share January 25, 2005 (edited) Here's a link on Walbro fuel pump : http://www.vfaq.com/pump-Walbros.html The exhaust should not be too loud if you left the muffler stock as well as last cat in place, (i.e. just 3" Up & Down with bell mouth collector) should help your spool up. You've no cat in your up pipe but better to get a bigger sized one lah....... Oh yes..... wrapping your up/down pipes will greatly reduce the rattley sound. With boost upto 1.4 bar and proper tuning, its already easily 300+ bhp. (your stock is already 280bhp? at what boost levels?) If you're satisfied with that, its already mission accomplished. Guess there's only so much you can get if your out-flow is restricted. BTW, you go BKS or BMS ah? Edited January 25, 2005 by Dwoon
Sheltie2306 Neutral Newbie January 25, 2005 Author Share January 25, 2005 Thanks for the Walbro infor, very helpful. The down pipe already 3", no cat, but up pipe is stock. Is there's a 3" uppipe? Everytime I ask the workshop guy about uppipe, he always say don't need to do anything as there's no cat. Mid cat de-cat, everything else stock. My is the euro, stock 265bhp at 1.2bar. I started to convince myself with 300+bhp, may be wait till itchy sometime later then see how lah I only go BMS, BKS too far for me. Quite like Ah Boon's extremely helpful attitude, so stick with him. ↡ Advertisement
