hi

I have this start up problem.

Even after changing a starter , when I crank the key sometime there is only a spinning sound.

one mech said due to wire aged , low electric power to starter cause this.

another said due to some part in gear box? need to open up gear box?????

What is that?

I was thinking of adding a relay or grounding to improve electric power.

Any advice?

Thanks

The first machnics resoning has more logic. Once the battery cable age , oxidation is form between the the strain of wires and that will cause voltage drop. So your starter will not be receving the full 12voltDC supply. High ampere will be drawn from the battery to compensate for the drop in voltage and that results in heat begin generated inside the cable. Over time, the process will weaken the battery.

The other possibility is the starter solenoid switch is having poor contact or the coil is already ageing. The solution is to replace all the battery cables, clean up the battery terminals, clean up the starter ground ( earth) cable contact and replace the starter solenoid switch witha externate unit.

Actually as a car owner, the first thing to suspect is always electrical. Most other parts of the car don't fail so easily as electricals which include ignition.

Suspect the starter solenoid need to be inspected and re-grease.

Solenoid engages the starter motor to the engine crankshaft/flywheel during starting.

Once started when the key is off the starter position, the solenoid de-engage the engine from the starter motor and also cut off electrical power to the starter as well.

An electrician job.

Another possibility is the teeth the connect the starter and the flywheel side is damage and loose contact during starting.

Keep yr WD40 alway from yr battery. What you need is a used tooth brush, glass paper( use for sanding wood NOT carbodrum sand paper for metal ) hot soapy water and old newpaper.

Clean the battery terminals and connectors with the glass paper and finish off by bushing with soapy hopt water. Wip clean with old newpaper.

PS Most of the European cars and some Jpn cars need to have a on-bord memory plug into the system before your remove the terminals to prevent memroy loss in some digital setting.
