Gadgeter 2nd Gear November 14, 2002 Share November 14, 2002 You might want to check with Presea. He DiY on his brake calipers... http://www.mycarforum.com/forum/gforum.cgi...h_string;#64481
Presea 2nd Gear November 18, 2002 Share November 18, 2002 my calipers don't like the paint I used....acrylic paint is starting to discolour.... ...I should have used my silver VHT paint. I most likely will redo the calipers colour sometime soon..... will post again when done...

Turbobrick Neutral Newbie November 20, 2002 Share November 20, 2002 Don't waste time and $$ trying other paints, get hammerite (around $10 a can) and paint the calipers. I used hammerite paint on my brick and lasted 3yrs without peeling until I sold my brick. Hammerite is available at Carrefour paints section. It's in a small can and one can more than enough. Unknown_G7 Neutral Newbie November 22, 2002 Share November 22, 2002 Hammerite paint can resist heat?? Is there any pattern (clockwise or anti clockwise) to screw back the wheel nut?? Will the wheel nut fly out when driving if it's tighten manually??
Turbobrick Neutral Newbie November 22, 2002 Share November 22, 2002 Hammerite is meant for exterior metals like gates and fences so can tahan heat well Tightening of bolts and nuts are almost always clockwise, hand tightening with a torque wrench will assure proper and even tightening force for all the wheel nuts. Unknown_G7 Neutral Newbie November 23, 2002 Share November 23, 2002 (edited) I had one can of hammerite intended for painting calipers and drums but can't find the " Heat Resistant " wording! So still remain unopen till now! I heard that we have to tighten the 1st nut follow by 3rd nut , back to 2nd nut and last 4th nut!! Is that true?? Turbobrick Neutral Newbie November 24, 2002 Share November 24, 2002 Don't worry, hammerite doesn't say heat resistant but it'll work. I'll used two different colors of hammerite and both stayed on Tightening wheel bolts in a alternating pattern is correct
Madarmour Neutral Newbie November 26, 2002 Share November 26, 2002 The calipers won't be that hot and Hammerite paint sticks well.

I wonder have you noticed that those cars that comes with painted calipers have smooth finish where the coloured part is? It seems that the caliper was putty-coated, then sprayed with colour coat and clear coated. Somehow when you paint it or spray it ourselves, the texture shows through. If we coat with putty, I wonder it will still flake off due to heat? Edited November 27, 2002 by Bimmerfan8
