Trex101 3rd Gear December 9, 2005 Share December 9, 2005 Well don't know about your model but 1.5 G9 need only 2 quart so your's should also be around there too.
Octopus 3rd Gear December 10, 2005 Share December 10, 2005 I see......thanks. I'm considering getting my MTF replaced, so now think of which gear oil to use......considering RP, Redline, Amsoil, etc.... (Year end bonus coming so have extra budget) The year before last year I went Stamford Tyre to do major servicing, and the package included MTF replacement as well, but I understand they use Caltex mono-grade 80 oil. But I'd like to try out those 75W90 oil to see what's the difference.....
Trex101 3rd Gear December 10, 2005 Share December 10, 2005 I would recommend MT-90 for your case if you want a 75w90 GL4 gear lub. User using this lub all reported quieter ops & butter smooth shift.
Megalord Neutral Newbie December 10, 2005 Share December 10, 2005 If budget permits, redline MT-90 is the choice.

Mkl22 Supersonic December 10, 2005 Share December 10, 2005 Hi. Anybody like to share their MTF oil change experience? Which workshop did you get it done, and if bring own MTF oil, how many quantity (bottles) is required? Thanks. DIY for corolla g9. bottom drain plug to drain. Side drain plug to fill up. use about 2l. Used a funnel and a plastic hose to fill up into the side drain plug. wait for excess fluid to flow out and once no more excess fluid comes out from the gearboil case, tighten the side drain plug
Genie47 1st Gear December 10, 2005 Share December 10, 2005 It is always easy with Toyota gearboxes. Freaking GM gearbox has only a fill port. The gear lube doesn't get changed for the life of the vehicle!
Octopus 3rd Gear December 11, 2005 Share December 11, 2005 [reply] I would recommend MT-90 for your case if you want a 75w90 GL4 gear lub. User using this lub all reported quieter ops & butter smooth shift. Thanks for your recommendation. Will give MT-90 a consideration.......by the way, can I say 3 bottles will be sufficient? Octopus 3rd Gear December 11, 2005 Share December 11, 2005 [reply] If budget permits, redline MT-90 is the choice. I see already 2 votes for Redline. But I think RP also quite good and its $4 per bottle cheaper that Redline? Will do more research before deciding. Thank you.

I assume you used a jack to jack-up your car before can unscrew the gear box drain plug? If that's the case, did you put back the car in level position before filling in the new oil or else the oil level may not be correct/accurate? I'm asking this because the workshop which I intend to ask them to do the MTF oil change do not have the facilities to jack-up the whole car, only partially jack-up on one side only. By the way, what type of MTF oil you used?
Megalord Neutral Newbie December 11, 2005 Share December 11, 2005 I remember for G9 theres no need to jack up the car, just go underneath and release the drain plug, thats after you release the top up plug. Fast and easy job.
Octopus 3rd Gear December 12, 2005 Share December 12, 2005 Thanks for the info. But I think mine (G6) may not be easy to drain the oil without jacking it up.

Trex101 3rd Gear April 4, 2006 Share April 4, 2006 Depends really. If you are driving Fit then i would recommend RL MTL. It will always give buttery smooth shift.
Megalord Neutral Newbie April 4, 2006 Share April 4, 2006 I agree. Gear lubricants are really the gem of RL. @Furrynadz, i experienced smoother shifts after changing from RP maxgear to RL MTL in the city. Another guy experienced smoother transmission in his pickup after changing from RP maxgear to RL MT-90 too. ↡ Advertisement
