Kia Spectra Gets Worst Rating in Crash Tests (AP Video) The Spectra, a small, four-door sedan that starts at $13,240, got the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (news - web sites)'s lowest rating of poor after a crash test dummy's head, chest and legs were injured in the 40 mph crash test. The last car to get that rating was the Chevrolet Cavalier in 2001. "Most manufacturers have figured out how to design vehicles to do a good job protecting people in frontal crashes," said Adrian Lund, the institute's chief operating officer. "Kia lags behind its competitors." Kia Motors America Inc. said it has met with institute officials to determine how to improve the vehicle's performance. The company also said it was comfortable with the level of safety the Spectra provides. "Occupant safety is a priority for Kia," the company said in a statement. "In the development of this product the Spectra has undergone a battery of tests, and we continue to have a high degree of confidence in the real-world protection offered by this vehicle." Just watched the video and realised that it's the same car... different name in different countries I guess Kia has got many names depending on which country. Their names range from Spectra/Mentor, Shuma/Sephia, actually all the same car but 4dr or 5dr. I think Cerato only badge in only a few countries. I think the US might be used to the Spectra badge just like we don't badge our Sunny to Sentra or we feel that the car is not a sunny as sunny already a traditional family car in SG. Then why bother to have such a Korean Section if most of the members here not welcoming Korean cars, saying bad things about Korean cars and biased against Korean car owners. Anyway, I have a bad experience with one of your member, seek help from him regarding my windscreen wiper jerky problem, did not offer me proper help but give insulting suggestions like asking me to change car as problem is not with the make of the car! Tell him that he did not offer me proper help and yet scold me vulgar language over the SMS, really disappointed with such a forum which does not welcome Korean owners. I am very sorry to hear abt ur bad experience on one of the member who have insult and humiliated you but don't u think you are too "Kia Protective" which might piss off some people? 1. I DON'T hate Korean cars.... I am driving one (Daewoo and a rare one), I even ask my dad to buy Optra which used to be under Daewoo. 2. I will rather buy Aveo or Optra or Korean than any Japanese car as I never fancied Japanese cars even they are better build. I will consider a Japanese car if i really like the styling or it's not so common on the road. 3. I think as for urself, u are biased too as all people here knows that u like Kia and u always like to compare Kia n Hyundai and eventually said that Kia is the better car or Kia vs some other car and Kia still win. Not all people will agree that Kia is the best or superior in quality or styling, that is just your own opinion. This article is a fact n not made up by anyone of us, please tell us that u just cannot accept the fact that the Cerato u have been boasted is not as good as you have told everyone here. I think nobody here will be biased against Korean car owners, it's just personal preference.... i have to admit that i will not buy any Malaysian made cars as I don't like the image, it's just very personal.... if i biased on Korean car, then do i have to look down on myself and anyone who drive it. Please don't get so WORK UP over FACTS on a crash report. I think u need to take a rest and maybe we leave u in peace to let you think abt it. I mean "Are you really over protective or biased over Kia cars?". I really do hope the Cerato is not design by you if that's the reason for you to get so work up. I drive a Korean car as well but you don't see me getting all crazy about the make and model yah. I drive a Hyundai and you don't see me spilling my guts out when you compare a Kia and a Hyundai and always saying Kia is a better car right?? Anyway, it's just a test, it is up to you to accept it.
