Fluffy Clutched December 6, 2004 Share December 6, 2004 Most cars nowadays come bundled with Reverse Sensors, however, i see an increasing number of such cars with dented bumpers and boots, usually a long vertical dent, like it hit a pole. Elantrahatch Neutral Newbie December 6, 2004 Share December 6, 2004 i guess it is an additional to jus using the mirrors lor. Of course, one cannot totally rely on the sensor when it comes to parking. It's better to have one, and of cos using your mirrors at the same time. BMW320i Neutral Newbie December 6, 2004 Share December 6, 2004 From experience the stock Merc's S class as well as E46s BMWs works well in detecting anything. For all I know they could be using some aftermarkets PDC. But I've know of people complainin PDCs that can't detect jack all or gives off annoying beeps. Pioneer 4th Gear December 6, 2004 Share December 6, 2004 i think they rely on it too much.. There also blind spots that the sensor cant detect. I guess those ppl really reveser v fast.. by the depth of the dent create
Sotong_kia Neutral Newbie December 6, 2004 Share December 6, 2004 I guess they have their weakness. I know my reverse sensors cannot detect hanging chains, or vertical poles smack in the middle.. It is to help in reversing. I guess many ppl just assume it works and can detect everything and reverse without even looking..
Dwoon 1st Gear December 6, 2004 Share December 6, 2004 Reverse sensors work, but as highlighted, there are blind spots. Therefore, the more sensors there are, the wider the coverage.

Do these devices actually work then?? I hate these Reverse Sensors. Damn irritating ... thats why I havent got one People with reverse sensors (not all mind you) are getting over-confident. Many I see hit reverse gear and just depend on reverse sensor and mirrors only ... not once does the head turn to check. Very dangerous ... a kid walking by could be a victim very very quickly ... One is taught at driving school ... turn your head and look back when reversing Edited December 6, 2004 by Hitman
Ahdi Neutral Newbie December 6, 2004 Share December 6, 2004 well, i still believe that using eyes to see would be more accurate rather than depending on reverse sensor, some ppl are just too dependent on reverse sensor and thus jus dun turn their head and look. well, my car comes with it, it do assist me to gauge the distance between my rear bumber and the wall behind me. but overall i would turn around to see if theres anything behind jus to play safe. while driving my dad car, a much bigger one , which is not equppped eith reverse sensor, i still find parking not of a problem, is jus that i haf to really turn my head to see wads behind and open the door to see sometimes. Ace_t Neutral Newbie December 6, 2004 Share December 6, 2004 nothing beats the reliable pair of eyes on our heads. reverse sensors have more blind spots than our pair of eyes.... I trust them more than those sensors. just my opinion...

Bluem323 Neutral Newbie December 6, 2004 Share December 6, 2004 It works well for me. But there is always the danger of becoming too dependent on it, which I am guity of. This is very bad, now I may have lost the confidence of parallel parking without it if it involves a tight lot. Should always treat it as just an additional aid. Turning head, double checking etc, are still important. The reverse sensor did save the day for me a few times, when it detects short pole, high pavement and uneven slope for me, which I will never see using mirror and head-turning alone while reversing. It also helped me to get out of tight spaces while driving alone, when other cars absent-mindedly pulled up so close, leaving little space for maneuver. There was even once the beep went off when a kid ran across behind my car, as I momentarily turned my head back to check the front. If used wisely, it is a good aid by making life a little easier. As others have mentioned, it can also become a bad thing if the driver becomes over confidence with it, and do not double check. Maybe that's why you see some cars with long vertical dent in them. Aspri Clutched December 6, 2004 Share December 6, 2004 Just to add on to what some of the brothers have said, some people also push their luck by reversing even though the reverse sensor is going off like "BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP". They then confidently tell me they know exactly how much more they can push. Maybe that's when accidents happen!
