Hi guys...

any comments on this bulb?

I'm currently using BlueVision... its not bad ... but find it too yellow...

Wondering if this Crystal Vision would be much whiter and LTA friendly [sweatdrop]

can't find any information on the net (poor surfing skills [:p] )

Not LTA friendly....

there was an article in Motoring (August I think) covering the various popular bulbs, and most were not LTA friendly... [:p]

Apparently, the "yellow" light is necessary for proper "driving vision", somehow it enhances distance measurement by our eyes. And the "white light" or "bluish light" actually diminishes the real distance of viewing and doesn't have sufficient distribution....

how about HID?.... I'm sure your car has a HID model for it... [:)]

so far all the philips bulbs are LTA friendly, thats why I'm wondering about the Crystal Vision.

as for HID...thats definately illegal... so I'm staying away from it [sweatdrop]

There is a write-up on these bulbs in the MOTORING Sept 2002 issue, covering [comments in brackets are quoted by the mag]:

- Philips Vision Plus [excellent at critical zones, excellent light spread]

- Blu White Xenon [poor at critical zones, average spread]

- Philips Blue Vision [excellent performance, well spread/thrown beam]

- PIAA Super White [average throw/spread]

- Philips Crystal Vision [Commendable throw, adequate lighting in critical zones, spread not as good as Blue Vision]

- Ploarg Max White [adequate throw, critical zones average, spread good]

- KAZ Hyper White [closest to an actual HID system, poor throw, critical zones poor]

Nothing was mentioned about whether the bulbs were LTA compliant or not. Nor was there any mention about which ones were the best or worst. You'll have to make your own decision as to which ones to get based on their tests and also the pictures in the article.

This is what LTA says about Head Lamps under the "Modifications Not Allowed" section:

"Head lamps (e.g. aftermarket High Intensity Discharge (HID) lamp kits, high wattage bulbs, etc.)

Vehicles should only be fitted with factory fitted HID lamps as they are designed to meet internationally recognised standards. Aftermarket HID lamp kits retrofitted into existing headlamps may cause unwanted glare when used. Therefore, installation of these kits are not allowed.

Replacement bulbs must be of a design recommended by the vehicle manufacturer. Using a higher wattage bulb may increase the risk of fire because of a greater current being drawn to power these lamps. Therefore, these types of bulbs are not allowed. "

Hi,

i'm currently using H1 crystal vision. it's slightly "whiter"(4000K) than blue vision but cannot compare to HID (5000 - 6000K). maybe you can try PIAA, there are some test bulb setup at autobacs and you might want to take a look yourself? [sunny]

When I went to Tye Soon last time, a salesperson commented that only Blue Vision is approved. Any truth? Where to find documentary proof that the Crystal Vision or Vision Plus is approved?

BTW is Tye Soon the cheapest way to get Philips bulbs?

Have not seen anything in black and white so far about this. Think to be sure, you will have to get it from the " horse's mouth". [lipsrsealed]

Extracted from One.Motoring web site on modifications:

"For further advice and clarification on specific vehicle modification, vehicle owners can write in to the Vehicle Engineering (VE) Department of LTA at 10 Sin Ming Drive, Singapore 575701. Alternatively, contact the Department at 1800-CALL LTA (1800-2255 582) for further assistance on vehicle modifications."

Cheers [:p]

The problem in writing is that they can keep a record & 'watch over' u for any illegal mods in future. With database of ur add and veh registration interlinked, it's only a matter of time that they track u down. Human nature right ...? If u've the drive to change the bulb, they'll try to see if u've any other illegal mods.

Just hope that fellow MCF bros who've installed a particular bulb and passed the inspection can share w us.

Hi,

Crystal vision is much whiter than blue vision, but its still not HID level. Its not lta approved and it is advertised "for off-road use" on its cover. Interestingly, for information on the net, you will have to go to philips japan !!

hi,

From what I know only the following are approved from LTA.

1. Philips Vision Plus

2. Philips Blue Vision

This two have EC approval marking on it which LTA approved.

The other one, Philips Crystal Vision does not meet EC Spec.

For Philips Blue Vision you can buy from Tye Soon for $45-$50 a pair, it also come with two white blue for the small lamp in front.

Philips Vision Plus is cheaper about $25 - $30.

Hope this help. [sunny]
