Kilomatrix 1st Gear November 29, 2004 Share November 29, 2004 (edited) I did a gear box oil change with Amsoil Synthetic Gear Lube today and I didn't expect the shift could be so smooth. Although it is not cheap at $20 a quart (requires 2.5 quarts), i believe it'll last as long as my car could last.. Oh yes, thanks DH for supplying the gear lube and engine oil. Genie47 1st Gear November 30, 2004 Share November 30, 2004 Actually the best syn gear oils are Royal Purple's Max Gear 75W90 and Redline's MT90. Over 100lbs on the Timken test and that is impressive by itself.

Turbobrick Neutral Newbie December 7, 2004 Share December 7, 2004 Fairly speaking, there's no absolute BEST gear oil, motor oil, etc. Say for my previous Ford Sierra 5sp, I cannot use AMSOIL or any GL-5 for that matter due to the sulphur contents. So have to stick to Redline's MTL or a non-syn GL-4 certified gear oil. A decent Syn gear lube will definitely trounce mineral lube in terms of shift quality and longevitiy.
