CAI will give you some improvement (like the slight increase of power when driving in the cool night or rainy day).

The compromise is that the air intake sound can sometimes be quite loud, depending on your ride. Also, if the intake is made too low, the risk of sucking up water during floods is higher.

Cheers!

thanks for the feedback. I am on a previous model Ody. Though not exactly loud in the cabin, sound is one thing i am perpetually finding ways to reduce.

the tread on most effective mod started me thinking.

is there one straight forward and/or simple upgrade or mod that you've experianced that had given you a better drive, in terms of better response, smoother ride, better FC, quieter ride etc.

i am thinking as fundamental, straight forward as spark plug and ignition cables ( both of which are not conclusive ), engine oil etc.

as simple as simply taking out and replacing.

appreciate any input. thanks !

There are many claims but to me it is short lived.

Most important are : clean air filter, good engine oil(syn prefered) and filter, engine is sound(well tuned) and no leak from exhaust. Correct wheel tyre alignment and pressures and a smooth body finish to reduce drag.

And the main one is drive smoothly, defensively and keep speed below 100 if possible. Ideal is 90 km/hr. My views

Most important are : clean air filter ......

I found out mine is shot by 8k and driving to 10k is already pushing it. Just nice for replacement in time with the 8k (5k mi) or 10k OCI. OE paper filters are very cheap compared to the cost of engine oil and oil filter combined. Just don't understand why people still save money by blowing compressed air to dislodge stuff off. shakehead.gif

IMO, air filter replacement depend more on the enviroment rather than milage. Some places very dirty air thus change earlier. Paper filter element are cheap, once its dirty with black soot, it's time to replace. Normally, when use in singapore can last more than 10 months. So far, most of my paper filter lasts about 1.5 yrs b4 replacement.

Those who blow compressed air, maybe trying to squeeze to the max or their filter element expensive like $45 or more per piece. Anyway, after about 1.5 yrs, the filteration quality and material would have lose it effectiveness already.
