Sir76 Neutral Newbie November 2, 2002 Share November 2, 2002 (edited) Hi all brothers, Got a shock of my life when I was driving along TPE heading towards Hougang just now. Saw a blue Alfa Romeo and was thinking of having some fun. We both exit at Hougang and was stuck at the traffic light. Thinking that my modified 205bhp SiR (dyno-tested) should be able to beat him flat. When the light turned green, I go on at full throttle thinking that it will be another victory over a conti. To my atonishment, the alfa romeo effortlessly leave me behind and the next moment, I lost him!!!!! How the hell would a Alfa be so fast? I clocked my century sprint at 7 sec flat and he can beat me FLAT!!!!! Any brothers here know who is him? I'm really interested to know what he has done to his car OR if you are the driver who is reading now, let's meet for a coffee. Pauly75ts Neutral Newbie November 2, 2002 Share November 2, 2002 "should be able to beat him flat." Hi! there, Sir76, Do you happen to know which model is it? BTW, some owners don't even know what their car can do. Smoked by an Alfa? Don't you worry, you're not the first, and definitely not the last either. Last week, an AR155TS 1.8 made RM1,500 from an owner of a BM325, and he didn't believe that it's stock standard either. It come just in time to replace all his shocks and fix his overheating engine. And a round of drinks for the K.L. section of the Italian Mafias. Rgds Paul Yong
Sir76 Neutral Newbie November 3, 2002 Author Share November 3, 2002 Hi Paul, Think its a alfa 156 that made me lose sleep all nite. I was reading the mags, alfa 156 is ONLY 155bhp for a stock model. How could my 205bhp SiR lose out? I would believe that massive mods had been done to the alfa 156. I simply can't keep up with him and the high pitch sound from his exhaust is really scary. Its really a nightmare!!!!
Presea 3rd Gear November 3, 2002 Share November 3, 2002 It could have been the 2.5L V6 model with supercharger bolted on.... Most Alfas aren't modified....the factory probably squeezed out most of the power from the engine.....and you can't just walk into McWell or GTR and expect them to have parts available for an Alfa. Need to wait for order to be placed...sent by shipment...then fitted. I would guess that a Supercharger is the easiest upgrade for modifying an Alfa. What do you think Paul? Kashie Neutral Newbie November 3, 2002 Share November 3, 2002 Alfa romeos are really fast freaks!! I once witness an Alfa zoom pass me at CTE at freaking fast speed. Continental cars are known to quote their horsepower on wheels, so 155bhp is proabably underrated. But even that it should not able to eat you up with your 205bhp SiR. Jgoh Neutral Newbie November 3, 2002 Share November 3, 2002 ...Or, it could be the 156GTA. Hard to tell apart on the outside with little more than deeper chin spoilers and side skirts... but, more telling from the inside (inside your own 'cockpit', that is, as you so shiokingly found out!!! ) 250bhp from 6 cylinders in V formation with four nostrils per pot. Lung capacity of 3.2 litres. I wonder what all that power does to the front-wheel drive, and the 156 chassis has not been brilliant to begin with. If only a 4wd platform was available... Well, we'll just carry on dreaming...
Yongwd 1st Gear November 3, 2002 Share November 3, 2002 205bhp at wheels ?
Mondeo Neutral Newbie November 3, 2002 Share November 3, 2002 No need the 2.5L, there's alredi supercharger kit was selling for the AR156 2.0/L, so after SC, it could be excess 200bhp.
Sir76 Neutral Newbie November 3, 2002 Author Share November 3, 2002 Hi JGoh, Just got a confirmation from my friend formerly from Massa that there is no 156GTA in Singapore yet,the GTAs will only arrive next June. Hi ShagMobil, Yup,205 on wheels. Fully done by Garage R. But still miles away from the Alfa last nite.
Madarmour Neutral Newbie November 3, 2002 Share November 3, 2002 Probably a 2.5V6 which has humongous amt of torque. Pretty difficult to mod a 156 here in SG.
Madarmour Neutral Newbie November 3, 2002 Share November 3, 2002 Nope, dun think there's any 156 GTA in the roads in SG yet.
Madarmour Neutral Newbie November 3, 2002 Share November 3, 2002 The SC is made for MANUAL but almost all 156 sold in SG is the Selespeed version.

Presea 3rd Gear November 3, 2002 Share November 3, 2002 Notice he never used the word "Auto " either It's a "clutchless transmission system"
Pauly75ts Neutral Newbie November 3, 2002 Share November 3, 2002 "massive mods had been done" Hi! there, Sir76, For the 156, it'd have to be the 2.5L V6 that ran with you. Even a WRX won't be able to out-run it, as it happened on the NS when the ItaliaAuto group of mafias came down to JB/SG in Sept. Most of the mods by Alfa drivers in SG are cosmetic only. Rgds Paul Yong p.s. no need to lose sleep over this, when a WRX over-heated at the end of it.
Pauly75ts Neutral Newbie November 3, 2002 Share November 3, 2002 "Supercharger is the easiest upgrade" Hi! there, Presea, There're no SC Alfas in SG, definitely 1 in K.L., A147TSSC 1.6 manual. Pending units in HK & Taiwan as not enough SC kits. Rgds Paul Yong
Pauly75ts Neutral Newbie November 3, 2002 Share November 3, 2002 "It's a "clutchless transmission system" Hi! there, Presea, An Alfa156 Selespeed owner just changed clutch at 35K. cost S$1,000+ Rgds Paul Yong
BoneStock 5th Gear November 3, 2002 Share November 3, 2002 Hi Paul, Think Presea meant "Clutch Pedal-less" The construction of the gearbox should be fully manual with a computer to activate the clutch automatically during gear changes...rite? Cheers ↡ Advertisement
