Sswh218 Neutral Newbie November 25, 2004 Share November 25, 2004 Hi, I am considering to get a Matrix and I need to decide on which Matrix; 1.6 or 1.8? Anybody knows how the fuel consumption of the Matrix 1.8 Revo (Auto) measures up with its 1.6 (Auto) version? Is the Matrix 1.8 Revo (Auto) more of a drinker? If yes, how much more (in terms of %)? Since the fuel tank capacity of both 1.6 and 1.8 is the same (at 55 litres), if Matrix 1.8 consumes more fuel, does that imply that fuel top-up at the petrol station would be more often than 1.6. Hyundai should change the capacity of the 1.8 to be larger (at least to a 60 litre tank). My present car is a nissan sunny 1.6 man LE which has not so good FC with about 10km for every litre of petrol. My distance coverage is about 360Km per week (probably 40% express-way and 60% city driving). Period to Top-up is about 5 to 6 days. I wonder what is it like if I drive Matrix 1.8 revo if my driving pattern remain unchanged? Top-up period will be shorter or longer? Appreciate Matrix 1.8 Revo owners can give inputs?? Another issue: If you are buying a Matrix from a used car market, do you prefer a 1.8 Auto or 1.6 Auto? I was told by a used car agent that 1.6 Auto sells better than a 1.8 Auto. The reason is that most used car buyers' mentality is different from new car buyers. While the new car buyer go for looks, price and performance, the used car buyer mainly go for price and cost of maintenance. For a 1.8litre car, the road tax, fuel consumption and insurance will be higher. As such, the used car agent I spoke to says that 1.6 Matrix (Auto) has a better market than 1.8 Matrix. Do u agree? ↡ Advertisement
Vernon Neutral Newbie November 25, 2004 Share November 25, 2004 I not too sure about the FC but my friend's colleague told him and told me that the SE told him the 1.8 would be more of a sipper compared to the 1.6 because of the lighter engine weight. I don't think it's true though. Maybe just to trick him into buying the 1.8. Or maybe it that the 1.8 has CVVT? You want performance of FC? You can't really have both at the same time. Sky8807 1st Gear November 25, 2004 Share November 25, 2004 I suspect that the FC for both 1.8 & 1.6 is about the same +- 0.5 to 1 km/l. On cruising the 1.8 is better. If you nissan FC is considered poor, then the matrix is poorer. I would say your topping up time should be 4-5 days if you switch over.
Toyo 1st Gear November 25, 2004 Share November 25, 2004 I would prefer a 1.8l engine for such a heavy car like matrix.

Elantrahatch Neutral Newbie December 2, 2004 Share December 2, 2004 Basically I dun think the diff will be that significant. With a 1.8 capacity, you could say that the car moves smoother and since Matrix is such a big mama, you can feel the car is more responsive. However, the downside will be paying more road tax. And so, therotically, if you should have better FC with the 1.8, your road tax might already offset the marginal difference. Nevertheless, got budget, go for 1.8! Vernon Neutral Newbie December 2, 2004 Share December 2, 2004 But according to the matrix catalogue specs, it seems that 1.6 manual has the about the same speed as the 1.8 auto although it has less horsepower. So if you don't mind manual then can get that one, since the interior trim is all the same except for arm rest.
