If there is a problem with the EGR, check engine light will come one. It is one of the things that will light the Check Engine Light.

 

GM cars are horsepower creatures. They let the rest of the cars breathe more oxygen to produce more horsepower

American emission standards reduce NOx. European standards reduce particulates.

 

The fuel economy philosophy is also different.

 

American have cheap petrol but have laws in place for cars to use all kinds of mandatory technology to make them fuel efficient like low wt engine oil, lower rolling resistance tires and EGR.

 

Europeans tax the sh1t out of the drivers with high petrol taxes. Much like Singapore. Aimed at drivers to their cars less.
