Any ill effects if only the front springs are changed?

Well, if you want to lower and change both the springs and shocks, the coilovers are an option. They are height and firmness adjustable although I'm quite sure once fitted, most ppl won't bother to adjust them........... Hotbits coilovers, is competitively priced at a shade above $1000. However, they are made-in-Malaysia, so it depends whether you are biased or not. BTW, the Hotbits coilovers can be serviced in their factory in Malaysia.

Progressing from lowered (springs and shocks) --> adjustables (new adsjustable shocks) --> coilovers, will be more expensive ultimately.

I guess it's the adjustable part that make coilovers best for tracks.

Install the Coilovers got an advantage, althought not often to adjust. But if can put the car on the wheels weight scale, then adjust the car weight distribution..easier [thumbsup]

Sensatrac + Lowering springs = disaster

I must admit Sensatracs are comfort biased shocks that's why I steered clear from them and decided finally on my Bilsteins for my brick plus Eibach Springs. Ride was hard but not harsh with my suspension setup on stock anti-roll bars [thumbsup]

I sugget Konis or KYB monotube gas shocks for spirited driving to keep the roll down and plant the wheels on the tarmac [sly]

Yup, definitely worth considering.

BTW, the local importer for HotBits is Speedworks at 85, Genting Lane #03-04 (Tel: 6-743 7288). Ask for Mr Loo. I find his price competitive but he doesn't do installation. I usually get my own mech to install the stuffs bought from him.

Yea...adjustments of coilover is best done with a 'corner' weight scales at each tyres.weight scales are used to 'balance' the weight distribution between the left and right and front and rear of the car. and from experience and test that would determine what is right or wrong.....

Basically, the purpose of coilovers are from racing teams to adjust the 'pre-loading' of springs at the four 'corners' of the car so that it can be set up for different type of tracks the team is racing in. The pre=loading would cause the change in height of the car. Therefore, there is misconception that coilovers are use for height adjustments of suspension, but actually it is a secondary effect as adjustment of spring loading is the primary purpose. adjustment of racing suspension tends to be only a couple of mm....probably the misconception comes from the effect of ride height adjustment cant be seen as much as road cars....

Please note the differences between spring rate and spring load..

spring rate is not equal to spring load.

spring load = pre=loading of springs ie: control the ride height of the vehicle at static.

spring rate is the rate of change of load against displacement. it is a determinant of spring stiffness. spring rate does not change no matter wat height you set your car but spring loading will.

The proper way of using coilovers is important as weight distribution is an important factor is determining the handling characteristics of the car.

so the saying goes..the hardest and lowest might not be the best, the softest and higher might not be the worst.....

suspension setup can be said a 'black art' by some...but its more science i guess....

Even used Sachs kits, car wheel weight also distribute not evenly, because got driver, in-car accessories, some liquids under the engine....etc.

Even the 4 Rims & 4 tyres will not be same weight.
