2002 Primera revisit......

i tested the Primera last week and found the acceleration abit lacking and body rolls abit excessive...... but the intereior and exterior designs are pretty good!!

[thumbsup]

juz spoken to my previous boss this morning whom i haven't met for at least 7 years. He's a well qualified amature road tester (having been a porsches owner and also owned many types of car.... latest being few models of high performance Saab, AR156 and most recently, surprise, surprise:- a Primera [:)][:)] ).....

he agreed with me that the showroom test Primera was not that impressive when it comes to taking corners...... but after replacing the stock wheels/tyres with good performance 18-inch light weight rims and tyres, he has transformed the cornering characteristics of the Primera to something most enthuriasts will be satisfied with [thumbsup][thumbsup] .....

as for the CVT accelerations (or the so called lack of it), he overcomes it by reving hard to reach relatively high rev and then switches on the sports mode quickly..... this way, he finds that the accelerations of the Primera reaching the standard of fast family saloons ie fast !! [thumbsup]

any comments or 1st hand experience in the above???? [nod]

cheers [;)][;)]

The problem is..... it takes quite a while to build up the initial thrust (if any) even when I have floored the accelerator. Nearly punched (step) through the accelerator floor.. [laugh] , but the speed builds up at its own slow pace.

Its pick up is slow, and be warned that the CVT technology is still pretty new ....... [:/]

Agree that the interior is nice [thumbsup] , some getting use to would be required for the central dials.

The centre bend at the front and back of the car body would be a nightmare to repair for car workshop.

Overall its a nice family car, with executive feel in the cabin.

Happy motoring

thanks for the comments [thumbsup][thumbsup] ..... i guess the next thing i should do would be to get my ex-boss to do a demo on how to get the car accelerate the way which satisfies him as a 'fast driver'..... maybe he really knows something we dun to make the reluctant horses under the bonnet to strike out and show us a thing or two............ [:p][;)][rolleyes]

be back with more report after that............ [nod]

I was at Taka last weekend and took a peep into the Primera Wagon, I prefer the design compared to the sedan. [nod] But I noticed the speedometer stops at 180km/hr. [shakehead]

For a 2L car with a top speed of less than 180km/hr, I wouldn't say that it is a very fast car...perhaps more of a nice family car. [thumbsup]

technically speaking, most 2L engine pulling a not-too-big/heavy body should be able to reach beyond 180kph. in the case of what i call self-imposed speed limit of 180kph, for a family man like myself, it's a good built-in restriction for safe driving..... i dun really need to go faster than that in 99.999% of my travel.... if i need to go from a to b faster than that, i take a plane...... [:p][:p]

so basically it's a case of to each his own lor...........

agree fully that the Primera is meant to be a family car untill hotter versions arrive (if at all).....

my 2 cents' worth...... [nod]

[laugh][laugh] agree with you on the taking a plane idea!

I just realised that I am a sucker for wagons. Saw a Mazda 323 wagon and dreaming for a 156 sportswagon. Even a Rio Wagon would draw a second look from me! [crazy]

Yeah, I like the wagon too. I don't like how the sedan's boot ends....too squarish and akward.

The wagon has a nice curve to it...especially the C pillars.

180 speed limit is like that on all JDM cars....even WRX have them. A simple bypass mod would help.

180 limit on WRX? [:/] ...hmmm...a drive up NSHW will be quite fun to see the speedo hit the limit [sly][laugh]

I believe it's the curve of the back that makes the car look more refine. But it's a matter of individual taste and needs. [nod]

Sounds like a damn leceh way to build up speed, man. [shakehead]

BTW, wif the dials in the centre, u gotta keep swivelling your head left n right to watch your speed each time u drive up north! [:p] Neck ache ah.

Yeah...was racing with a WRX on NS highway last year....

He would overtake me while I was doing 150-160....

then as he hits his speed limiter....I will eventually overtake him as mine only kicks in at 190.. [laugh]

Quite funny to see......yes. [;)]

Just like ppl need to get used to the Selespeed! [laugh][laugh]

Actually, I thought I've read somewhere that the CVT is designed to keep the car at the max torque range when accelerating so I thot it will be fast rather than pedestrian.

Do you know the ex-156 owner who is driving the JDM WRX now? So there was a time when he and a few other frend went to test-test on the NS Highway. Of course blew them away initially but in the end, everyone overtook him, including Greg's BM and of course Serpent's 33. You could imagine his face then! [laugh][laugh] Now it's a different story................... [sly]
