Genie47 1st Gear November 2, 2004 Share November 2, 2004 IMHO, wheel alignment is best left to the pros. Don't tinker around with wheel alignment yourself.
Parkwalker Clutched November 2, 2004 Share November 2, 2004 do you have an idea when should we do wheel alignment? Just had a medium brush with the kerb during u turn and wondering if i should do wheel alignment to compensate...
Genie47 1st Gear November 2, 2004 Share November 2, 2004 No need. Just drive and observe for any abnormal behavior. Just do your regular alignment once a year.

Analtcar Neutral Newbie November 2, 2004 Author Share November 2, 2004 Thot that it would be satisfying to DIY and also to do for friends too . It looks very simple to do.
Genie47 1st Gear November 2, 2004 Share November 2, 2004 Wheel alignment is not simple. Very precise and very dedicated stuff. Only a well trained tech can do it well to bring joy to the car owner. It is one of the things many DIYers know that should not be attempted. Needs computers and lots of hardcore equipment. See how Kenny does at AMK Autopoint. Not easy stuff and explains why he is paid big money for it.
Analtcar Neutral Newbie November 2, 2004 Author Share November 2, 2004 I thot there are some simple easily set up equipment to measure the trueness of the wheels.
Genie47 1st Gear November 2, 2004 Share November 2, 2004 Nope. It did exist but in the past. Dark ages. Now wheel alignment is computers, lasers and all that.
Yeobh 4th Gear November 3, 2004 Share November 3, 2004 What you need is a simple side slip board - more than 350 pcs are being used every day by car workshops and handful of weekend mechanics
Yeobh 4th Gear November 3, 2004 Share November 3, 2004 Very easy for Japanese cars with Macherpson struts as both camber and caster angles cannot be adjusted. You have be mechnically capable and with some knoweledge of wheel geometry, if not keep away.Cars with independent suspesions are best handle by the professional. Genie47 1st Gear November 3, 2004 Share November 3, 2004 You serious ah! IMHO, DIY wheel alignment is pretty difficult in our context because we don't have the luxury of 2-door garages.

Yeobh 4th Gear November 4, 2004 Share November 4, 2004 (edited) I still prefer mechanical aligner - hardly any maintenance cost and last for donkey years. The tools will perform to the best only if in the hands of trained and experience tech. The high cost of computerised aligner both in investment and maintenace are all pass on to the car owners!! PS attached photo of a high precision camber caster gauge - still widely used in Japan and US Edited November 4, 2004 by Yeobh
Yeobh 4th Gear November 4, 2004 Share November 4, 2004 (edited) To do toe adjustments with portable side slip tester - you can do it anywhere so long the resting surface is flate. PM me if you need the instruction sheet. Edited November 4, 2004 by Yeobh ↡ Advertisement
