Feelgood Neutral Newbie October 24, 2002 Share October 24, 2002 Hi guys, This is my first posting. Been passive all this while. Anyway, I thought of changing my 14'' tyres soon. Budget is not an issue. I'm more concern for noise, traction and looks. All recommendations are welcome. Thanks ↡ Advertisement

Rx7_lover Neutral Newbie October 24, 2002 Share October 24, 2002 I maybe wrong but the better the traction the louder the tire is usually.... I personally don't know anyone who looks at tyres so I don't know what to say about that.... alot it depends alot on what you value first.... some singapore mags do grade tyres but I don't know how accurate their ratings are.... anyways I feel tyres are one thing that differs from person to person.... you have to find your own niche and something you are comfortable with.... Presea 2nd Gear October 24, 2002 Share October 24, 2002 I suppose in terms of looks, most people talk about the tread pattern...how aggressive....how unique it is. Maybe even the 45 degree angle, in relation to the rim, how it sits on the road, and how the shoulders are square with the floor (like a bodybuilder's stance). The grading I follow now comes from the reknowned Dr Andre Lam. He seems to be the most experienced Singapore Test Driver. But as you put it, it is not too accurate. I find his opinions sometimes biased, and not too consistent. But I like his grading level (B, A, A plus) because that helps me to decide which tyre I would compare...so I don't have to deal with a performance discrepancy. Guyver 1st Gear October 25, 2002 Share October 25, 2002 Welcome man!! Go for at least a 16" rims..... i feel that 17" would be abit too big for typical 1.6litres car....... just my 2 cents....
Presea 2nd Gear October 25, 2002 Share October 25, 2002 You sat that because if he bought 17" rims.....you will feel that your 16" is inadequete.

Presea 2nd Gear October 26, 2002 Share October 26, 2002 (edited) Yes...I have better acceleration with my previous 14" than in my current 16" The mileage should have been better (if I was not so heavy footed )... ....but stopping distance is longer, and under hard cornering, there's more understeer. cheers Edited October 26, 2002 by Presea
