Last year went to another workshop when I felt the vibration. Workshop only casually mentioned that could be due to engine mounting. But back then I asked if I should change it the guy told me not needed unless vibration becomes worse. This time round I went autobacs and was advised to change it.

Anyway reason for me not going back to the same workshop cause the guy that I trust no longer works there and has already went back Malaysia.

ahhhh, autobacs ...... Never trust those slimeballs from there or Spark and similar setups. If you are not aware, their service advisors do get some sort of commission for work done

Unless the rubber has disintegrated (unlikely), one can live with worn mountings for a year. Less than a year, its really up to you.

For eg. Taxis. You think their maintenance regime really follow guidelines ?

Thanks bro. Anyway any idea if I do not change will there be any safety issue?

Change my 4x engine mounts on 11th yr 150k. If you don’t change it, the vibration will get stronger but should not cause catastrophic failure.

Another way is to check the rubber on the all mounts and physically see which one or two are really worn out. Sometimes it is alright just to change one or two since the other mounts are still ok. Since you are scraping soon and if you tahan the vibrations then live with it.

Bad engine mount can cause stress to other components.

Take a look at the above YouTube link on bad engine mount, and see how the engine move up and down. These movement can cause stress to other components, beside that if the mount is bad enough, you may even feel that the car has no power.

Saving small money and end up expensive repair. That is the risk you may want to consider. 1yr more to scrape probely can get through it, but just don't drive with damaged engine mount for too long.

Ya but then taxi lifespan only 7yrs. So if don't change engine mount it's okay. Imagine engine mount never change for more then 10yrs and with taxi mileage. Surely can feel the big difference.

Anyway does anyone know of any workshop that does engine mount repair? I just brought my car to another workshop and was quoted 700 plus for engine mounts.

Ok thanks thanks! Asked this cause I remembered the mechanic was mentioning about safety hazard if never change.

Yes. Axle or what may fail prematurely if the mounts are damaged. Since you are scraping, you can consider to change just those damaged ones and not the whole set. I changed mine around 600 for a set of 3.

Most workshop can do that. Since it is a half to full day job, you might want to find one near your home or workplace.

Hi,

Just to share, my WS use a jack to slightly jack up the engine and change the mounting one by one without take out engine. Whole process done in about an hour.

After that car smooth swee swee and quiet like new.

Hi all,

Hope to get some advise here.

Was told by AD to consider changing my engine mount.

The vibrations and sound is very obvious. Unless I don't mind, can still continue to drive.

No risk impact. Price to change around $600+

Appreciate your feedback

Thanks

your car left how long more? if it has 2 or more years. i suggest just change it. 600+ still ok la. divide by the number of days not costing you much also. you will surely cannot tahan the vibration.

The vibration and vibe sound in the front of your car will be very obvious especially during stationary.

Imagine your phone vibrates but much much louder and stronger.

But don't worry, the engine won't drop yet. My AD say so.  [laugh]
