as above... i cannot find size 32mm wastegate for my car.. i was wondering if it is okay to run a bigger wastegate like say size 40mm? is there a bigger lag or something? or izzit juz the bigger the size of the wastegate, the bigger u can go on yr turbo... advises pls.. [;)]

me no expert but the purpose of a wastegate is to help regulate and release some of the exhaust pressure when it's being fed into the turbo. by having too big a wastegate, u may lose too much pressure required to spool the turbo.

Me also no expert in this area but I think a bigger wastegate will be able to better hold higher boost pressure & would be more stable. [sweatdrop]

Obviously, the bigger the turbo, the higher boost you'd wanna run to maximise your hardware capabilities. Unless, some other hardware already max out (fuel pump, injectors etc) but that's another thing..........

hmmm... so the bigger the wastegate the more the pressure will be lost? is that wad u mean? hmm.... any experts ard? recommended size for my wastegate is 32mm.. i'm running on a td04L

TD04 still not sufficient for u?? dizzy.gif mine uses that too and stock oredi pumps out 300Nm of torque. wat car u drivin?

if it's complemented by a whole host of fancy plumbing & engine mods, maybe it's still ok. but not sure how effective it is dumping a TD04 into the 993cc GTTi engine tho.

na.. i did alot of things to the car so it actually does not overkill the lag. in fact i'm running in my engine now, so its so its NA at the moment, still faster than running with the stock turbo... estimated after tuning 190 to 200bhp [sly]

bro, me confused liao. turbo engines run on low compression. if u running NA on low compression, the power will be even worse than a stock NA charade engine. so how come it's more powerful that the stock turbo? dizzy.gif

If it's a TD04L that you're using, you might wanna consider using the TF035 instead. This is a smaller turbo that is being used in Foresters. This turbo spools up earlier but of course dies out earlier as well. You don't see many of them for sale in the 2nd hand market but if you're interested, let me know.

But if you're looking at boosting at maybe 0.7 ~0.8 bar, this would be a better option rather than TD04L which I understand that peak performance to be ~1 bar. Unless your engine has been mod to take that sorta load, it might result in premature death.

many ppl see td04 as quite a big turbo as it is, and they feel it opens at a later stage of rpm. however with proper piping done, the turbo will open early. i have a fren running a 1.6 lancer using td05 opening at 2800...

i push the compression up by a little and converted the trottle body and a fuel pump.. and some other engine barang barang...

Turbos don't die. They get killed! Usually when you see a defunct turbo, it is usually a case of poor maintenance or screwed up engine management. Case: Friend's turbo actuator actually melted and broke. Upon examining turbo, instead of the blackened turbo vanes, they are white signifying very lean mixtures pushing temperatures up. The turbo actuator is fixed but I think the bearings are damaged as well.

Bro, agree with you on the turbo "going up the lorry".

But errrr...... I was referring to his engine withstanding higher boost. His rods might go rather than the TD04.
