Tanzy Clutched September 30, 2004 Share September 30, 2004 Anyone saw the one car accident on the cloverleaf from Clementi going down to PIE (city) yesterday? There was a black Mitsubishi Lancer on the grass with the rear wheels on the road barrier (Boot pointing towards the sky and front wheels on the grass)! Driver looks OK. Wonder how he manage to fly the car one metre up there? Maybe he felt that the car wasn't handling the bend well enough and decided to put the wheels the railings. ↡ Advertisement

Tanzy Clutched September 30, 2004 Author Share September 30, 2004 (edited) My friend suggested this scenario: 1) Wet road. Fast bend. 2) Car starts to understeer. 3) Driver corrects by going full lock. 4) Driver eases off trottle or brake as he realises the car is not under control. 5) Front tyres catches grip on road again. 6) Front tyres pointing to the right at full lock so car turns to the right. 7) Driver doesn't counter steer in time resulting in vehicle heading on to the kerb. 8) Car still has forward momentum, but by now it's side way momentum. 9 Momentum carries the car perpendicular to the road along the kerb. 10) Vehicles mounts the road barrier where it is still low to the ground and rides up on the higher part. 11) Knocks down some plants on the way. 12) Car comes to a stop due to friction of exhaust on rails. Raycsk Neutral Newbie September 30, 2004 Share September 30, 2004 My analysis: Driver realises he is too fast into the bend. Brakes but car already into the turn. Rear wheel loses traction and tails out. Car almost into a lateral slide and driver instinctively turns more to correct the lateral slide to avoid slamming the left barriers Car now turns 190Deg driver releases brake and rear tyres mount kerb with rear lifting off the ground. Car must be travelling fast for the rear to go up the barrier. If the barrier shows little signs of bending backwards and little damage to its entire height then there is the possibility of car backing into barrier with only its front tyres
Vit4wd 1st Gear November 23, 2004 Share November 23, 2004 This accident could have been avoided had the driver been crawling at the legal speed limit of 50km/h
