Jman888 Moderator October 21, 2002 Share October 21, 2002 how much will that cost? i think mine started after i use the RainX thing
Sky8807 1st Gear October 21, 2002 Share October 21, 2002 Rain X is good only when there is sufficient on the whole windscreen, and it wear out easily, once that happen, judderrring comes, sometimes you have to apply it like 2 daily to elimate it. No cost but patient. Wash the windscreen thoroughly with soap and clean it. After a while the judder will stop. Coating take time to wear off. Another thing, don't use those wiper blades cleaner or protector on your blades effect is the same judderrring
Jman888 Moderator October 21, 2002 Share October 21, 2002 Thanks Sky, will do more washing to get rid of the coating. dun think i want to use Rain X again, every two days is too taxing especially not raining everyday!
Cool Neutral Newbie October 21, 2002 Share October 21, 2002 (edited) YOu got to be careful if you use my method. 1. User Turpintine to clean the windscreen, scrub it hard 2. Wash it away with water. Do it for 2 weeks and the judders will be gone. Edited October 21, 2002 by Cool
Turbobrick Neutral Newbie October 21, 2002 Share October 21, 2002 Search for wiper judder or vibrations. I had this problem in my brick for years until I sold it. Only possible solution I didn't try was industrial grade windscreen polish which was expensive ($185 for 500g powder)
Soya Supersonic October 22, 2002 Author Share October 22, 2002 Do u think the AutoGlym glass polish is any effective?
Gadgeter 2nd Gear October 22, 2002 Share October 22, 2002 Use the Rain X cleaner to remove. After you have use the cleaner, you should find it smoother to wipe. Aside, how did you apply the rain X?
Turbobrick Neutral Newbie October 22, 2002 Share October 22, 2002 I tried countless off the shelf glass cleaners and polishes no use..... Perhaps try Cool's method using turpentine (be careful!)
Cktan Neutral Newbie October 22, 2002 Share October 22, 2002 I was recommended using Braso( yes the BRASO polish) on the windscreen to get rid of it once. Never really tried (disclaimer) but somebody might want to try. Me just try and change wiper more frequently and use Newspaper to clean the windscreen after washing TB-so free no need to study ah? Jman888 Moderator October 22, 2002 Share October 22, 2002 how did you apply the rain X? I follow instruction lor pour some onto a clothe, wipe the screen, drip some water on the screen again, wipe it dry. Nothing wrong, right??
Gadgeter 2nd Gear October 23, 2002 Share October 23, 2002 Jman888, Yup, right method.. Did you ever use the cleaner that comes along with it.
Soya Supersonic October 23, 2002 Author Share October 23, 2002 Juz curious, what causes such judders in the first place?
Turbobrick Neutral Newbie October 23, 2002 Share October 23, 2002 My suspect is silicon deposits that lodges into the windscreen and only an abrasive could scrub it out of the windscreen.
Veron Neutral Newbie November 1, 2002 Share November 1, 2002 Hi all, may I know what happened with the Scratch Hog thing? Did anyone buy it n try it out? Am I right to say that Armourall on the wipers works for some but not everyone? I doubt if RainX could be blamed for everyone's problem bcos my dad uses it on his Merz (the old model with one wiper type), n we used it on our former Nissan, n we had no wiper shudder problem. My brother has a S40 which after using RainX for a few times, had the shudder prob. I'm wondering if it's the windscreen design prob now, esp after reading that a few Volvo owners here have the same prob?
Turbobrick Neutral Newbie November 1, 2002 Share November 1, 2002 Scratch hog was too expensive so we passed. As for the judder problem, I suspect that it could be due to over-caring for the paintwork that led to the judders. Why? Well when we wax our cars and rain pours the water beads actually "carries" some wax and slap it on the windscreen which makes in inconsistent in viscosity (some part more slippery than others), so judders occur. Another reason could be silicon deposits in the windscreen glass "pits", that one definitely require an abrasive like scratch hog to remove as a micro layer of glass must be taken off. Question to U, does your dad wax his merc?
Veron Neutral Newbie November 1, 2002 Share November 1, 2002 Ok, I get what u mean; my dad doesnt wax his merz, but my bro waxes his car . So does that mean it's pointless changing the windscreen? 'Cos he'll still be waxing his car after that. ↡ Advertisement
