I have no idea what's under the hood. It's definitely not the US Chevy engines because it's a joint development by GM DAT and RML(Ray Mallock Limited).

One thing about the Nubiras is this: Don't play play. The 2.0L models are packed to the brim with equipment. For the price you pay, they are really bang for the buck. More so than Hyundai or Kia.
