Tank Clutched September 23, 2004 Share September 23, 2004 Will be getting a black car soon and wanted to put some protection on the paint. Read through the articles here, it seems that mostly the recommendation would be zaino or glare. But using these would mean need to go back for waxing or polishing or would need to use back the product if DIY. Is there any form of a more permanent product whereby after application can last for a few good years with regular DIY maintenance by just using plain water or simple car shampoo/wax. Heard that some product after application cannot wash with normal shampoo. Is this true? Any experts pls advice. Thanks. ↡ Advertisement
Tank Clutched September 23, 2004 Author Share September 23, 2004 Actually was looking for a 1 time real solid application of sealant and then just wash/wipe regularly with plain water. Not sure if there is such a product or solution out there Anyone?
Poortraveller 1st Gear September 23, 2004 Share September 23, 2004 there is no such thing as apply one time and forget paint protection ... all type of application will need you to reapply ... just a matter of how frequent

Peterkoh Neutral Newbie September 23, 2004 Share September 23, 2004 I will be getting my new car soon as well. In fact, it is this Sunday. It's black in colour. Was looking around at some products shared by fellow forumers. Enquired about Glare as well. In the end, I think for new car, all it needs is a layer of sealant as the surface is still in good condition. So I will wash it with water and apply Soft99 "9 month". Anyone knows where I can buy Soft99 "9-month" ? Thks.
Silver_blade Turbocharged September 23, 2004 Share September 23, 2004 I have been grooming my car myself. So far, the result is good. I have used Autoglym gloss protector, turtle wax, etc.
Assassin Clutched September 23, 2004 Share September 23, 2004 If youre looking for something more "permanent", you can try products like ToughSeal, PPS etc.

Tank Clutched September 23, 2004 Author Share September 23, 2004 Agree that for new car, a good sealant is good enough. Is product like Toughseal or PPS more lasting? I am not really looking at maintaining a perfect showroom shine always. But rather more of protecting the paintwork and upkeep it by maybe washing it twice or 3 times a week with plain water or mild shampoo wax.
Kel5463 Neutral Newbie September 23, 2004 Share September 23, 2004 hi guys i got ride late july and as soon as about a week after i got my car protected at GLARE. why GLARE? its actually covered my car pretty well. i park my car in an open air hdb carpark and YOU all know what bird sxxt does. well on those few occasions that i ve been bombed, all i needed was a wet soft cloth to remove the offending bits and there was no mark ! on the paint work . there was once when i got hit by the pinkish sxxt and even after the wipe there was a shadow only. went down to GLARE and they re did the car in about 45 mins as it was a quiet afternoon for $15. the other reason was even tho i dont wash my car every other day, it still looks shiny with a deep shine and my cars black i still turn around and look at my car when i have parked the car and walking to the lift and LOOK. its not cheap but with a central location at ubi and a branch where i can easily drop by at lunch , the orchard road branch is a boon. i m not paid by GLARE . i just want to share my experience. ask around and decide for wats best . the alternative would have been Zaino Bros at CAZ COMP great stuff there , but needs alot of elbow grease if you DIY. tks!! just my thots

Basically if you Glare your ride, it would be effectively protected for at least 18 months without having to re-apply. You do NOT need to polish it. You just need to wash it either with just water or shampoo, after which just wipe dry. That's about the simplest and easiest solution. Or if you like you can always go back to them for a SPA, where they claybar and shampoo your ride. I have done my ride in July and till now, I washed my car only 3 times, and it still looks great. Tank Clutched September 23, 2004 Author Share September 23, 2004 I notice there is this Amazing Glaze, Ultrashield and of course Glare. AG claims to be used by airlines Ultrashield guarantees 5 - 7 years Glare 18 months anyone used AG & Ultrashield b4?? how are they compared to Glare? I think end of day, they are almost the same. probably only price as a determining factor

Tkew 1st Gear September 23, 2004 Share September 23, 2004 I agree with you. It is a question of price. If you are loaded enough, you can even ignore all these sealant, and just respray every year. BTW, on claims, Glare claims to be used on yacht and cruisers to protect it from sun and elements. I did see their advertisement in Raffles Marina's magazine. Spango Clutched September 24, 2004 Share September 24, 2004 According to GLARE's advertistment, they even claim that it is used in the barrel of the rifle to keep it clean! Anyway, if anyone wants to give GLARE a try, do it before the end of this month to take advantage of the 50% discount. If anyone is wondering where to go, you can try out their new branch at AMK autopoint. They've got some very nice folks there. I've tried GLARE and I must say that it is very value for $$$ (taking into account of the 50% discount promotion they are having now).
Jagash Neutral Newbie September 24, 2004 Share September 24, 2004 Actually was looking for a 1 time real solid application of sealant and then just wash/wipe regularly with plain water. Not sure if there is such a product or solution out there Anyone? Actually most of these sealants that promises long lasting protection of up to 18 months are all using PTFE (teflon). Teflon is a registered trademark of Dupont but there are many other people producing PTFE as well but not using the teflon name. PTFE will only bond chemically with a surface at 680 degree F so when such product is applyed on to car paint surface, the bonding is only a physical bond. This means that the product will wear off with time. One of the way to delay this wearing off process is to wash your car only with water but even then, 6 months is about as long as I would stretch it. However, washing with just water will cause other problems, like swirls and fine scratches like some bros already pointed out. These has to be remove when you go for the next coating. If you wash with car shampoo, it will probably last 3-4 months. BTW PTFE is a slippery substance similar to platic and it main property is that it will not allow dirt, dust etc to stick to the surface. PTFE by itself does not absorb UV light or replenish oils in the paintwork so some of these product contains other stuff to do these jobs. Some of these sealants will allow you to wax over it which is good bcos the wax offers another layer of protection, it gives the car a deep wet shine. If you want to DIY, suggest you wash, dry, clay, wash, dry, polish (optional for new cars), sealant (Fusso 9 or 12 months). Next day wash, dry and wax. Try it but don;t get addicted! Tien Neutral Newbie September 24, 2004 Share September 24, 2004 Ultrashield guarantees 5 - 7 years if i understand correctly... Ultrashield is not a sealant it is more like a clear coat layer on top of the existing clear coat + paint. hence it can protects longer than glare or toughguard or system6. etc. the main idea here is protection, not shine. so long one doesnt constantly touch-up the car, the car will definitely not shine and swirl marks will be visible. K2zoom Neutral Newbie September 24, 2004 Share September 24, 2004 Ultrashield guarantees 5 - 7 years While Ultrashield claims that the shine can last 5-7 years, they are actually giving a warranty of 18 months, same as Glare. ↡ Advertisement
