hi guys,

i am hearing a very distinct humming sound from my S40 as the car travels above 40kmh. do you guys get the same sound from your S40?

 

my car is due for 60k servicing. anyone had it done before at SM motors?

Is your S40 a Phase I or Phase II model?

 

Can u explain the hum in more detail? Is it due to the fan? Our S40 has covered 7k, yet to send to SM for servicing.

Hi wildswan,my S40 did not had the humming sound even I speed up to 120 kph,all I notice is when I turn on the inigtion,there's a funny sound from my engine,dun noe what is it,abt the SM motor I'm yet to send in my car,this S40 I'm still newbie with it ,maybe u can check with CKTan

mine is a phase i model (without xenon lights) built in end 1999. the sound goes 'wo-wo-wo-wo......' and the beats become faster as the car travels faster. i thot the sound was due to the tyres but i doubt so. fan can be a possibility. i will be sending the car for 60k servicing this week and will get sm motors to check and determine the source of the sound.

at higher speed. there is also wind noise that sounds like whistling. it comes from the side mirrors.

The Phase II S40 doesn't have xenon lights too. Do u know of any S40 w xenon lamps?

 

My Dad's car has the black bezel effect headlamps and spoiler (so called the Sports series).

 

BTW do u have a hard time cranking the engine? We've to hold the key in Start position for quite long at times

Hello,

 

That huming sound you mention is most likely from the tyres. Try swaping the front to the back. Tyres with unever wear will cause noise like you mention.

 

Next possibility is the wheel bearing worn out. But unless your car has done very high mileage say 150K kms. Hope you solve the problem.
