Mymini Neutral Newbie August 31, 2004 Share August 31, 2004 hi all.....just wanna check if any of you fellas have this problem with their car aircon? basically what happens everytime i start the car & turn on the aircon, after about half a min, the air coming out of the aircon REALLY STINKS!!! It smells like something is rotten in the aircon....sour-ish smelling. But the smell just stops after 20secs or so. Anyone also experienced this before? how do you get rid of it? what's the cause of this? Help needed urgently ...... i BTH the smell already! ↡ Advertisement
Lemie Neutral Newbie August 31, 2004 Share August 31, 2004 Hello Mymini...I believe the smell from the aircon is due to the moist in the cooling coil which later flow out when air-con is turn on. Maybe you can try to turn off the air-con (with fan still blowing) and switch the air-recirculation function to let fresh air in minutes before you reach your destination. This will allow the cooling coil to dry should there be moisture. The smell should goes off gradually......

Luckcent 4th Gear August 31, 2004 Share August 31, 2004 On a bright sunshine day, open all the doors to let it bake cos the cooling coil has mold or buy from a diy shop a spray for those aircon fan coil cleaner.
Tanzy Clutched August 31, 2004 Share August 31, 2004 I usually get rid of the damp and mildew smell by running the fan at maximum with windows down on a hot day. I tried Dettol spray but it didn't work.
Cardinal Neutral Newbie August 31, 2004 Share August 31, 2004 I used to have this problem. Seems like UK Spec cars (assuming your avatar is your car) aren't conditioned to the humidity in SG. The heater method works, but what you have to do is to drive with heater for a few days. you just need to set the temperature to "max hot", no need to turn on the fan so that you don't get roasted yourself. Then drive with windows down. I did it for 1 day initially, didn't work. Takes at least 3-4 days.
Ace_t Neutral Newbie August 31, 2004 Share August 31, 2004 if you can, put some charcoal into bags around your car and leave it for about a week or more... that should absorb any mildrew or 'rotten' smell from your air con vents. of course take care not to spill the charcoal onto your mats....
