Soya Supersonic October 14, 2002 Share October 14, 2002 Noticed that all stock turbo cars dun come wif a turbo timer (incl rex). Similarly, Volvo says my T4 doesn't need one too. Getting a bit paranoid switching off the engine immediately after a drive. However, thot turbo timers are one of those essential stuff to keep the engine running to help cool and prolong the turbo's lifespan. Question: If turbo timers are supposed to work, how come they dun come as a standard fitment on turbo cars or why do manufacturers say it's not necessary??? Me very confused...... ↡ Advertisement
Charade993 Neutral Newbie October 14, 2002 Share October 14, 2002 Thought by right, we are not supposed to leave our engines on without manning it?
Turbobrick Neutral Newbie October 14, 2002 Share October 14, 2002 Turbotimers are necessary only if U like to race home and shut down the engine immediately. I had a turbo timer on my brick and didn't use it for more than 5% of the time I was driving the brick. Most of the time I used it after doing acceleration timings which I leave the turbotimer on while TCSS with my kakis after a run. If U're T4 has a factory immobilizer, I suggest U forgo the turbo timer and in the rare occasion that U boost hard before shutting down, just spend one minute to allow the turbo to spool down and cool before shutting off. I'd be more concern with pampering the tranny rather than the turbo since modern water cooled/oil cooled turbos are very realiable.
Soya Supersonic October 15, 2002 Author Share October 15, 2002 Hmmm...U got a point. The tranny doesn't seem stressed at all probably coz it's a 5 speeder.
Turbobrick Neutral Newbie October 15, 2002 Share October 15, 2002 The 5-sp auto is definitely smoother and in fact faster as it has more ratios. The only drawback for now is it needs Volvo Syn Tranny fluid and cannot use other brands yet. (Don't think it's the same as Syn ATF like AMSOIL ATF) ↡ Advertisement
