Torquey Neutral Newbie August 25, 2004 Share August 25, 2004 i have read quite a fair bit abt close ratio gearbox, all claim to be able to hit optimum RPM faster and stay within optimum RPM for respective powerbands of each gear. other than higher fuel consumption, i havent found out other disadvantages. anyone can enlighten me? thks. ↡ Advertisement
Acemundo Supercharged August 25, 2004 Share August 25, 2004 i think it makes sense. but to have that range of power, i thik if the ratios of gearbox are close, they should have more gears.

Torquey Neutral Newbie August 26, 2004 Author Share August 26, 2004 i think it actually shortens the powerband. i also read tht the low end becomes more torquey at the expense of the top end. ok seems like the disadvantages of close ratio gear box arent that serious. any idea wats the significance of the specs of the final drive? Acemundo Supercharged August 26, 2004 Share August 26, 2004 hmm...very surprising leh... if the powerband is shorten what's the use of having so much low end torque? i tot more gears is suppose to address the lost of range at the higher end? hmm, let's wait for other experts to comment ↡ Advertisement
