Unknown_G7 Neutral Newbie August 23, 2004 Share August 23, 2004 Hi all, any comments for Conoco engine oil? With Hydroclear Gold 10W40 (API SL), Super J 10W40 (API SJ/CF) and Super XP 10W40 (API SG/CF), which one is more suitable for my G7? Btw is it Syn, Semi-Syn or Mineral? ↡ Advertisement
Genie47 1st Gear August 24, 2004 Share August 24, 2004 Your XL? They are severely hydrocracked oil. Same as SHU which is a Group III. Get the 10W40 which is API SL. I believe it should work well for your car. The SJ and SG rated can be used on your car. They should be cheaper as the standards are obsolete. Biccat Neutral Newbie August 24, 2004 Share August 24, 2004 I just changed mine 2 months ago to Conoco mineral. Got it free from Wheels Asia Driving Holiday. Have tried all kinds of synthetic fuel from Mobil, Shell, Castro, SPC, CAS housebrand, Enduro etc. The final verdict - No difference at all for my ride since I keep to my regular servicing intervals and do not rev my car hard. Unknown_G7 Neutral Newbie August 24, 2004 Author Share August 24, 2004 Yup same car. What's hydrocracked oil? And what's the difference between API SL, SJ, SG?
Unknown_G7 Neutral Newbie August 24, 2004 Author Share August 24, 2004 How are you able to tell whether it's mineral or not b'cos on the bottle, it doesn't show syn, semi-syn or mineral leh!
Biccat Neutral Newbie August 25, 2004 Share August 25, 2004 In the fine prints, it is stated that it performs like syn oil.
Unknown_G7 Neutral Newbie August 25, 2004 Author Share August 25, 2004 So that means it can last for 10K like syn oil?
Biccat Neutral Newbie August 26, 2004 Share August 26, 2004 In my opinion, yes. After all, we do not subject our rides to extreme temp. Before I switched over to syn many yrs ago, I was using Mineral and my servicing interval was 10K.

Biccat Neutral Newbie August 27, 2004 Share August 27, 2004 I did checked the dip stick regularly. Not a problem. My servicing workshop confirmed that too.
Genie47 1st Gear August 27, 2004 Share August 27, 2004 Check the oil out through UOA just to be sure. Different car likes different oil because different oil behaves differently with different engine. If your dino oil confirm can last 10k, I think all the same engine car owners will benefit a lot. Genie47 1st Gear August 28, 2004 Share August 28, 2004 (edited) Australian Laboratory Services. Visit Wear Check and ALS Chemex. The Singapore location: ALS TECHNICHEM PTE LTD A one hundred percent owned subsidiary of Australian Laboratory Services Pty Ltd, the Singapore laboratory offers a broad range of general analytical services covering: *Food *Microbiology *Electronics Industry Component Testing *Environmental & Green Testing *Used Oil Analysis (SOAP) *Insurance investigation Contact : Mr Yeoh Guan Huah E-Mail : guanhuay@als.com.sg Phone : 65-6283 9268 Facsimile : 65-6283 9689 Address : 14 Little Road, #07-01 & #08-01,Tropical Industrial Building, Singapore 536987 But I suggest sending to Terry to do it. He can give you his interpretation of the results. If you send to ALS, what you get a whole report that you don't understand because you do not have the technical knowledge and expertise to interpret the numbers. For example, high lead content will mean wear in a certain engine part or silicon means poor performing air filter.
