Cheekg99 Neutral Newbie August 24, 2004 Share August 24, 2004 no need to be so conscious ah ... just on the engine and warm up accordingly
Silver_blade Turbocharged August 24, 2004 Share August 24, 2004 Not all car need to warm-up at idling. In fact some car makers advice their customers to start the car and drive away almost right away....but do not rev high before the right temp is reached. Warming the engine at idling will increase the wear and tear to the engine. Renault, Opel, BMW, Audi, VW, Skoda, Benz, Alfa, etc recommend it. Hoppe Clutched August 25, 2004 Share August 25, 2004 yeah...best start, immediately drive off at slow speed 20-30km/h and when the temp goes up, then can go faster
Precurser Neutral Newbie August 26, 2004 Author Share August 26, 2004 i'm driving an audi but i always let the needle drop to proper idling speed when i startup the car, that takes 'bout a min or two. is there a link that i can refer to confirm driving off immediately after starting up? Hoppe Clutched August 26, 2004 Share August 26, 2004 there are so many theories... some say drive off immediately, some say wait and then drive off. Dunno which is true... But I think with the engine using Syn oil can drive off immediately since lubrication is faster, and engine can reach stable temp faster comparing to mineral oil. Freemen 2nd Gear August 26, 2004 Share August 26, 2004 I believe its also about newer cars with computer chips verus older with manual setting. Go habits will enhance the cars battery life although newer cars have the chips as a protection. But no harm having good practise I think. Konspire Neutral Newbie August 27, 2004 Share August 27, 2004 actually, best recommended by AA magazine sometime ago is, u could save on petrol by moving off slowly after starting the engine. This way, the engine would warm up faster. if u let it idle, more petrol will go to waste. for starting up, some cars have the indicator light. so when the light turn off, then u should start the engine, otherwise ...........may try to see what will happend. Jiayong 3rd Gear August 30, 2004 Share August 30, 2004 Affirmatively way number 1. It's the same guys! eh..actually its different...you can feel the difference esp in old cars. like mine. If i do one...no doubt i can start the engine...but u can almost hear the strain.. If i do clutch + number 2...u can hear the engine happily start up.. well..my point is...if u guys dont intend to keep your cars for the long term...then just go ahead and do whatever is more convenient... but if you intend to "bao yang" your car and keep it till dunno when...then do clutch in + number 2. It really makes a difference. Those that want to argue...just meet me at bishan lah...can lend you my car to try try...sure u can feel the difference..hee hee... ↡ Advertisement
