ES100 users - your feedback please

I had a set of ES100 before. It gets noisy after >20000km. Also, it screech quite easily as well.

It is alot noisier than the regular all season tire. It is expected because it does not have as much pattern. It is very very good dry tire. It is an average wet tire.

 

However, it is not good for fuel economy due to high rolling resistance from the lack of thread pattern.

 

I'll recommend this tyre if you want to really corner hard. If for show only, I would not buy this because it is too noisy.

 

The grip is excellant if you take corners smoothly, don't suddenly spin the steering wheel. When you use high performance tires, the sudden "lose grip" you experience is normal. It is because it has very little sidewall flex, and you don't get bigger contact patch when you are going sideways. This is actually better because you don't scrub off too much speed compared to a regular tyre.

 

After getting this tires, I can now take 90 degrees turn at the junction at 45-60 kph just for the fun of it (of course, when there are few cars and with the right line)

well, i thought G3s and ES100s were both one step down from their respective top of the lines so can't be too bad performing. and i thought they were the sweet spot for price-performance cos they aren't so much more expensive than the ASPEC DB grade of tires. anyway, this will be the last set of yokohamas for me. even a buddy with the AVS sport complains about them being screechy.

 

will seek the opinion of you tire gurus on my next tire change, which will be quite a while more unless i shred my tires on the track. I'm sure by then, there'll be new models on the market. and i see "new" brands (i know they've been around, just that i never saw them market themselves) like nokian and GT Radial on the market here, but have absolutely no idea on their models and performance. any ideas on their ES100 and above equivalent models?

Did the same corner with you... fastest I ever did was (on empty road, quiet night) 70km/h. No screeching either...

hardest is 60+ at Bedok flyover into ECP......

Pretty fast actually because i like to corner hard once in a while. only times. Referring to CTE (city bound) exiting to moulmien (left hander), about 80 in dry, the traction lost instantly. Happened on a few occasions. So i told myself, no more ES100 forever for me.

 

hmm....i have tried abt 70km/h but not 80km/h. maybe i should try and see whether the same happens?
