Dptm Neutral Newbie October 10, 2002 Share October 10, 2002 Are there any damage done if the steering wheel is turned to the extreme with force? :( It happened to me quite a number of times and my heart aches. Keep reminding myself to be more gentle when turning the steering but sometimes it just happens :( ↡ Advertisement
Luckcent 4th Gear October 11, 2002 Share October 11, 2002 Normally it will not give problems but if you turn to max and vehicle is stationery then it will wear off not only the tyres but the tie rods as well
Hensony Clutched October 11, 2002 Share October 11, 2002 It is very comforting to know that I am not damaging the steering wheel. Like Dptm, I tend to oversteer. Really worried that I might damage something. Phew!!!
Sky8807 1st Gear October 11, 2002 Share October 11, 2002 No damage, just stress the drive shaft only. If you do turn to max, and the car is moving, do not move too fast. the rubber boot may give way.
Slowpoke 3rd Gear October 11, 2002 Share October 11, 2002 you won't damage the steering wheel.... its just a round metal thing wrapped with leather or plastic... ....but you'll probably damage the steering rack....keep doing it and you'll bust a seal and find a puddle of power steering fluid under your car. if your car doesn't have power steering, you'll probably damage your ball or rose joint (can't remember wat it's called) ....I cringe everytime I see someone turning the wheels to the extremem while stationary...even if its not my car

Slowpoke 3rd Gear October 12, 2002 Share October 12, 2002 I spent 80 bucks on a steering rack rebuild kit to replace all the seals, started leaking again after two months, in the end had to fork out another 400 bucks to buy another junkyard steering rack to replace..... so far so good if you want a bigger shock, try asking your authorised agent how much does a brand new steering rack costs
Pauly75ts Neutral Newbie October 12, 2002 Share October 12, 2002 "will be more careful when turning the steering wheel" Hi! there, Dptm, Never turn your steering wheel to full-lock for too long. Damage to the pump seal if using power-steering & steering rack seals. When the car is turning, it'd damage the CV-joints for FWD cars, always turn back a notch when it reach full-lock. For power-steering cars parking too close to the kerb, you might touch the kerb when at full-lock, it'd damage the lower ball-joints of the front suspension.
