Toalson 1st Gear August 11, 2004 Share August 11, 2004 Hi just curious to know which is better? Getting repilca Taiwan rims? Or SSW? Or Advanti? Heard some repilcas have very decent light weights as well. But question is whether they are good enough compared to house brands of Stamford(SSW) or Yokohama(Advanti)? Need to look for relatively cheap rims (15") but yet durable. Hopefully light as well. Sorie that I sounded cheapo.... Btw does 15" come in 5.5 rim size as well?? And wat tyres goes well for normal driving?? Ziex 512? Thanks! ↡ Advertisement

Vidz 6th Gear August 12, 2004 Share August 12, 2004 I dont believe there is such thing as cheap+light+durable, in relative terms. if your budget only allows for Taiwan rims, IMHO, you should bear with the weight or bear with the fact it may not last... been using SSW, a bit heavy but not too bad... Cheers
Toalson 1st Gear August 12, 2004 Author Share August 12, 2004 So how much heavier is SSW?? How much does it affect ur pickup and FC?? If any?? Thanks.
Jagash Neutral Newbie August 12, 2004 Share August 12, 2004 The SSW rims would not be as heavy as your original steel wheels so FC is not an issue. If you want light forged rims, you have to be prepared to pay 5-6 times the prices of Taiwan rims. SSW 15" is $160 before discount. Wait for Stamford offer - buy 3 get one free. Toalson 1st Gear August 12, 2004 Author Share August 12, 2004 Currently I'm on stock steel rims 14", so if I go for SSW 15" its still going to be lighter then existing? So if given a budget that can still afford SSW, would you advise that I should go for it rather than Taiwanese replica?
Jagash Neutral Newbie August 12, 2004 Share August 12, 2004 I think weight should be similar. I have used SSW for my Trajet for 3 years and also on SSW on my current Civic. Not much difference in FC and pick up compare to original steel wheels. On the question which Taiwan brands to use, I think better to go with one from a reputable importer / stockist. BTW SSW also made in Taiwan.
Sapience Clutched August 12, 2004 Share August 12, 2004 you want light? go for SSR (SSP), VR, Gram Lights, Buddy Club, OZ (only the superleggera)

Toalson 1st Gear August 13, 2004 Author Share August 13, 2004 I read from a particular review or adver, SSW is manufactured in Thailand, that's where their plant is located at. anyway thanks for the advice.

Toalson 1st Gear August 14, 2004 Author Share August 14, 2004 Any comments on enkei??? R they similar to SSW or Advanti?? Or r they differetn cos comes from Jap n is light weight??
Silver_blade Turbocharged August 18, 2004 Share August 18, 2004 Enkei is a very good brand and most are from Jap. SSW is Stamford Tyres house brand. Advanti is by YHI, local Yoko distributor. Weight of rim vary from rim to rim. Most of the time it is difficult to identify the weight by brand, unless it's SSR, etc. ↡ Advertisement
