I was thiking to get a Ford Laser .Would like to know some brother's opinion here regarding the:

1.)Perfomance

2.)Price

3.)last but the most important thing .The Fuel comsumption.I would like to know how many KM can I travel before I hit the 3/4 Tank rule from Full tank.I understand the meter bar of most car from full tank to 3/4 tank on the meter gauge can travel quite a lot but once reach half tank very fast finish .Please advise.

Erm, please don't take this the wrong way, but why is fuel consumption the most important criteria? You should be looking at a Jazz or City then.

My selection was between Ford Laser and Chevrolet Optra. I like Ford Laser because I have driven one for sometime before, I like the power that the engine deliver, and I know that the Ford Laser is very long lasting. I went to the showroom for a test drive, and I must say that the new 2004 design looks very good and elegant. The power is still there. But the interior seems very dated, when you in the car, you feel like you still driving a car from the 90s. Worst still, the antenna is still the manual type beside the driver, i.e. when you go for car wash, you will have get out of your car, and physically push in the antenna.

I would have still gotten the Ford Laser, if I had not test driven the Chevrolet. After testing the Chevrolet Optra, I find that the engine is smooth, the interior very classy and luxurius, and the electronics, i.e. the remote is very continental. This is what I like. The ride, sound insulation and suspension is more superior as compared to Ford Laser.

The Ford Laser is a conti-car with Japanese design, the Chevy is a conti-car with conti-design. The only thing that I think the Ford Laser is superior to the Optra is the body, the exterior "looks" longer and grander than the Optra.

Hope this helps in your decision. [:)]

You are right, it is a Japanese design, assembled car with a Continental badge. The true Continental cars from Ford is the Focus and Mondeo.

But Chevy cars here are Korean made. [:/]

Oops, we are getting into this again. [:p]

Chevrolet in Asia is owned by GM (40+%), Daewoo (20+%), Suzuki (10+%) and another company which I cannot remember.

Other than in Korea, where they manufacture under the "Daewoo" badge. The rest of the cars (Chevy badged) are assembled in Rayong, Thailand, which is the same plant as Opel.

If you talk about design etc, it is even more complicated. Here's what I know, the design is by Pirifirina (Italian), Engine by Holden (Australian), Suspension by who, don't know, but they claim that it is tuned by Lotus. And a lot others are involved which I cannot remember. [dizzy]

So other than the fact the share holder "Daewoo" is Korean, nothing else about the car is Korean. [laugh]

Forget about Laser... It is a very old design. It has the same engine and cabin design like my previous 323,Jan 1999. I just scraped it.

If you like Ford, I would advise you to go for Focus, the price diff is not too much.

new laser looks abit like the cerato to me....

However, the focus is indeed a good car with excellent handling and evergreen good looks.

the not so good part is the FC and the price.

Since the Laser is raised on the same platform as the Protege ... this is my take on it wink.gif

1.) Perfomance = Average , comfortable amounts of torque to get you around with no fuss. Dun expect to outrun the Civic no matter how much bodykit and spoiler you put up. Max speed is around 170 kph knife.gif

2.) Price = Competitive with other makes in its class.

3.) FC = I dun think the current Laser as with the current Proteges have good fuel mileages. This is from feedback I receive from Protege owners here. A full tank would last you around 500 km , full to 3/4 should last you 200 km .... if the fuel tank design I presume is still the same as my 99 model unimpressed.gif

I would presume that like me, you plan to refuel at 3/4 tank in JB. I am lucky as my car can hit 300 km from full to 3/4 tank mark .... but I dun think the current Laser and Protege can do that. Worse if you opt for auto transmissions crazy.gif

Agreed.

But, Focus OMV is much higher than Laser. And the driving experience is sooo good.

If one can pay for Laser, please consider Optra. I will take Optra any time. No fight!!!

Vtim's driving is always pedal to the metal, thats why FC becomes poor....... [bounce1][bounce2]

I test drive the focus last week... (before coe rise) $69,900 for the basic package knife.gif.. premium package add 5k and the agent forget to put the .. "test drive plate" " she got so worried and ask me to drive back to the showroom so that she can put it on haha...

after that i pop over to see laser, inside is really outdated design... but price only 51,900 with fog lamp, reverse sensor, and few others cant remember.... a 1.6 DOHC, pleasant looking... worthwhile deal it seems... but i didnt test it....

I tested optra the same day... seems very stable... but i can feel the weight of the car... wa.. heavy.....

Hi there,

From my nick should tell you that I am also a driving a Laser, bought the car since 02 so far no major problem. FC for me so far is abt 10-11.5km (auto) [smallcry] .

Sound insulation of the car quite not very good, but for the price it is selling now I think it is a good buy.
